Best original style petcocks (fuel taps)

I got a pair from clubman that look pretty original, but I think they have rubber in them and probably from Taiwan. I haven't tried them yet. Sometimes you can re-seat the originals unless they're really gone. I don't like my originals (EW) because they don't have the lock nut so it's a crap shoot where the lever ends up.

Matt at CNW sell some very neat 90 degree outlet taps cw with ON-OFF-RES function. Nice taps, but not original looking. Email him as they're not on his site.

Before using Matts, I used taps from Andy Molnar in UK, they look original and have great flow, they are a taper type, so no rubber inside to swell and block passages (as happens). Trouble with Andy's is they're racing taps, so only have ON-OFF function.

BAP don't look right on a Norton. Found these UK made ones, any good?:

I got a set of British made petcocks like the ones that you show from the ebay listings. I purchased mine from Clubman Racing Accessories:

http://www.clubmanracing.com/accessoriesfuel.php
British with standing pipe - #F1200 - $33.50
British no standing pipe - #F1205 - $33.95

The taps work fine, they don't leak and they give better fuel delivery than the cheaper Taiwan versions. They have been on my bike for the last 6 months. I am happy with them.

Pete

BAP ones work fine, and are great. Criticisms people have had are that they don't flow much and that they can crack when tightening them onto the tank. Use a dowty washer or permtex aviation sealant and you'll have no problems.

Don't buy the emgo ones they tend to leak because the whole seal is just done with a rubber thing instead of the nice seal on the OEM norton ones. They look very close though, but if you have an OEM petcock, getting it reworked is the best option.

Are the CNW versions with the plastic handle? Seen them.

I can't find any information on Andy Molnar's version.

Yes re the CNW ones.

Andy's look like those in the eBay link posted earlier. Andy's are top quality, I don't know anything about those in the link. I don' t think he has a part number for them. You'd have to call him to buy a pair I guess. They're listed in his Manx price list under 'frame and fittings' at £14.00 each (that'll be plus VAT and postage I guess).

What is involved with reworking an original one? Is that a durable solution?

I took my original one apart and its brass to brass taper. Is there a way to refit these?

Light lapping will fix light damage, will require a machine shop with a tapered reamer and a lathe if badly damaged. That's if weeping through the seal!

I took mine apart, put the tapered brass end in a drill, put some valve lapping compound on it and ground it back in to it's seat. You can get new viton o-rings at your local auto store. My rebuilt ones seem to hold pretty good, but they will probably wear out again with usage, plus like I said, they don't have the stop nut and that makes putting that rubber seal gasket on them hard.

Someone mentioned the Clubman ones again, I'm not sure the gaskets came with them, I've had them a couple of years.

They're pretty much straight through like the originals, unlike the BAP, but like I say, there's rubber of some sort in them. Frank said they hold up pretty good???
