Begonia Rally nr. Ieper (Ypres) Belgium

Me and Kaz just got back from 10 days in Frogland touring the Somme and Seine Maritime, 150 miles a day 2 up on the Commando and no probs. (apart from the traffic in Rouen and tinnitus) - did run a bit slower tho' but that could be down to 'lardy' on the back.
Will be goin' to the Begonia Rally with 'Slug' (#1 favorite son) - anyone else ? The cow will be hovering above the tent again! see you there.

Saw the horse push the new Triumph over at last year's NOC International Rally though

I've heard that the old Plymouth Branch are intending to turn up in force again this year. Do you go back far enough to remember them spending all night looking for "Dave"? The old Cheech & Chong "Dave's not here" really upset some of the NOC Committee IIRC

When is the Begonia anyway? Been a couple of times in past years, but since I haven't recieved a roadholder in the last year, I have no idea when it is...is dependant on mulla too...not got pockets full at the moment..... :wink:

Thanks for the info....band has a gig on that Saturday.....so it's out for me.. :cry: Guess Van Halen was right. Life goes on...without me...not so bad though...is a good 500 km there, and 500 back..long drive for an overnight..just did that last weekend..still one tied puppy.. :wink:

"Mad" Richard Beynen is still going strong. His Commando is more cafe racer than sit up and beg these days and, not surprisingly, he likes track days big-time!

I'm sure the Tay Valley lads will be there upholding their kilt tradition and displaying their wares.

As for Mike's comment, Smokin' and Snortin' is something I leave to other people's Nortons - mine just purr 8) . Trappist beer is hallucinogenic enough for me, especially when combined with an expensive taste for cask strength malts.

By the way, Hewho, what's that about a "tied puppy" ? You didn't make the poor little bugger run along on a rope behind you did you ? :wink:

I don't know if the Begonia is really "fun". It's mostly just standing around in a field drinking and talking about old motorcycles, which is probably what I do best actually. Come to think of it, it's what I've spent most of my adult life doing

Glad to see Richard is still around, that his famous bungy cord/tiewrap held together machine didn't lose him somewhere in a corner over the years. Undoubtly the most fearless, fastest and truly skillfull rider I have ever met, bar no one. The last time I saw him was now many years ago when my daughter and I took a trip to somewhere north of London for an NOC rally and after the rally, he, an older fellow with a Dominator and I decided to try and make the boat back to France, which left in about 1 1/2 hours. Being an hour north of London didn't seem to fase Richard or the other fellow, and you know how it is...who wants to admit they can't keep up with the others. We never got below 80 or so, me trying to keep them in sight, shifting down only for what seemed like hundreds of round-abouts, my poor 11 year old daughter sitting on the back and not making a move, or saying a word for the entire time.

Stupidest thing I ever did with a passenger was try to keep up with Richard and that old fellow on the Dominator. Last man, and oh how awful it is to be left behind...

When I finally had time to think about it...that ride scared me so bad, not because of the driving, which was hair-raising enough, but because of how stupid I was to risk my daughter all for the sake of not missing a boat, or losing face because I got left behind.
By the time we got there, the boat was just leaving, and we were the last ones on it, but it wasn't really worth it. One of the few things I've done, that I'm really ashamed of. Strange thing is though...my daughter never mentioned it to her mother...dear girl..... :wink:
