Battery Orientation for MK3?

I removed the battery and starter paraphenalia back in the 70's. Now that I'm getting a little old, I'm going to put it all back together. First I am making heavy gage cables as recommended on here.
I can't remember what the battery orientation was. I need to know if the terminals were toward the front or rear, and what is the polarity orientation left and right.

Battery terminals toward front, positive terminal nearest the oil tank - or so it was on mine.
