Wow! I thought restored stock was the way to go. I didn't realize it was possible to get $17,000 to $20,000 extra by customizing. Or, maybe that old saying is in effect: "There's a fool born every minute".

Anything's worth as much as some damned fool will pay for it. That being said, I should consign the Titanic to Mecum when it's ready for sale. They seem to know how to pull in all the fools with more money than good sense.

I was there last year, looked a RZ500 over. It was nothing special and locked up solid. After I told the Mecum people, they never mentioned it when it went up for sale, and it sold for 5 figures. Not impressed. IMHO, I think they get a lot of problem child drop offs. Not all of their entries are , but I'm just saying....

All the auction houses want is a seller's fee, and a buyer's fee.

They could care less if you sell a locked up purple Norton chopper and call it a green BSA race bike.

Considering what it cost to have CNW build you a Norton,
some might say that this one is a real bargain.

Theres a good running 73 for sale here for 4 k, missing a bit of polish and paint but it has a good steel Interstate tank, not that peanut Roadster job. Also, it's got the big mill, the expensive one doesn't.

You know what they say, drive em off the lot and lose ten grand. Add a few scuffs and drop the other $13,500....

I love my Commando , but for half that price I could make do with my two Italians .... sad but true ...

Its the future folks as nil youngsters filling in to carry on. One can easy exceed the sales price if maxing out on what's available and the special handling/processing to fit and finish. While in transition phase of Commando's becoming elites exotica, I got a foot in both worlds, or split brain, factory parts only delighter Trixie Combat cheap as they get and Peel project pocket drainer.

It's been meticulously restored, and the subtle modifications like the tail light bracket and front mudguard are nice improvements.
But those clocks and brackets

Signing off to review my career choices... and get some bikes finished.

To each his own...

I was sat in the paddock once at Mallory Park having a cuppa, sat next to my Egli Vincent Godet I had at the time.

A guy comes up to me (a celebrity no less, a former radio 1 DJ as it happens, so probably ‘comfortable’ financially) and asks me what it cost.

So I told him.

I thought he was having a fit. He was absolutely incredulous “What? How much? OMG!” “Hey” he shouts to passing strangers “Did you know this cost £xxx?” All at the top of his voice.

I sat watching him, finished my coffee and walked off.

Later the same day, a very ordinary looking bloke asks me the same question, so I told him. “wow” he said “is that all? That’s a bloody bargain”.

I think the former was looking at a shiny motorbike and valuing compared to other shiny motorbikes. And the latter was looking at the quality components, the incredible workmanship and many, many man hours all put in by Patrick Godet.

Nowt so strange as folk, as they say...

The price of an Egli Vincent Godet is not comparable with one commando no origin and with a bad tunning.;)

I'm sure I have seen that bike outside the US in the past 12 months, Ireland? fake posting by the dodgy Mecum site maybe to drive up business. Having watched Hunting classic cars, the Mecum auction house seems dodgy as hell in what they claim to be selling.

As I said, possibly fake, anyone wanting one of these would one, know where to look, and two, know what to pay - there is so much info out there.
