This is a very nice example of a non-original John Player Norton Replica and I wonder if anyone knows this bike, it owner, or has any more photographs of it. If I had to guess I'd say it might be in England.
Anyone know this Bike?

Thanks for any information.
Ian

There was a guy from the London area who had one similar, can't remember his name but he also built Harley cafe racers if my memory is working. This prompted me to dig out a photo of my JPN rep taken about two years ago, the last time I rode it (too many Nortons too little time) so now I'm inspired, going to dig it out for next year! Ta!

With a Stanton & Stavely manhole cover, it's got to be in the UK somewhere ! They're too heavy to export.

Gino, are you thinking of the chap with matching leathers, matching girlfriend and matching Tiger 100 (wasn't it ?) I thought that I was a bit of a poseur until I saw those two ! :)

If you are both thinking of Mark (& Karen) G********e, then I don't think that's his JPN (unless he has two of them?):

This photo, taken at Beezumph 19 is I believe, Mark G********e with his JPN:

Yes, you're right Les, that 's who I was thinking of at least. Definitely the wrong wheels.

There's a photo (taken in a similar harbour setting) of what appears to be the same JPN (it's got his name "M S B G********E" on the fairing) in Don Morley's Norton book first published in 1991-so the bike has hardly changed in 20 years! [Edit: I just noticed, the expiry date on the tax disc is "11/82", so it hasn't changed much in nearly 30 years!]

Hi,
Thanks for the answers.
I plan on building a very similar JPN replica and would have liked to make contact with whoever built that one. They did a very tidy job! I like the Lester wheels, even though they are not 'correct'; I have purchased Morris Mags for mine. They should look almost as good! I also notice that its a MkIII as will mine be.
Appeciate any input or suggestions.

Thanks,

Ian

The second one pictured looks to be.

Er, yes...but I don't think he meant that one?

Gino's MkIII "JPN Rep." has CMA wheels, I think?

On closer examination I do believe you are correct! The LH Disc brake threw me! Should have looked closer. Oh well mine will be . . .

Yes the disc is on the left like the MkIII (an easy swap). The brake on the left side would be dictated by the fact that speedo gearbox is driven by the front wheel! If the assembly was reversed so the disc was on the right, the speedo drive (then being on the left) would turn the speedo cable backwards!
The rear brake also has a disc like the MkIII- but then it is a Triumph Lester disc wheel.

(As well as the right foot change, the crankcase does not have the MkIII timing plug, the timing cover is pre-MkIII type, as is the frame...etc....)

A long shot, perhaps, but looks a bit like Peel Harbour in the Isle of Man. Any more guesses?

I'm curious the there doen't seem to be a front number plate. Have they been eliminated in the UK? My Ariel Leader had one on each side of the front fender and my A7 BSA had the blade type, on the front fender centerline.

If anyone is looking for a real JPN, I can sell the frame, engine and transmission with numbers that match and can be traced to its origins. When I bought it, it was a burned out hunk, nothing plastic, fiberglass and rubber was gone.

This is what it looked like when I bought it

At least the chrome is still black.

Front number plates on motorcycles ceased to be a legal requirement in the UK from August 1975. Although it wasn't compulsory to remove them-most riders did!
