anti sump failure..........(2015)

and if you have followed me i am with you about the POS sold as an automatic valve as a disaster waiting to happen.

My Mk3 wet sumps after every ride, so I have to drain crankcase 10-20ozs.
I installed an antisump spring loaded ball check to no avail.
I ride everyday.
Should I open up the excellent running engine and follow forum advice on what and how to fix?
Or install a ball valve?

Sounds like the little anti sump plunger that sits in the timing cover and closes off the oil pump when the engine is shut down is stuck open. Ive come across this several times and the last time was on a very low mileage MK3. The cure is to remove the timing cover and if finding the plunger stuck down, is to blow it out using compressed air through the little bleed hole next to it in the cover. Put a rag over it when doing so to catch it and the spring. Polish the plunger using very fine wet and dry paper and test fit it in the cover after cleaning it. Make sure it opens up fully without sticking. Clean up and refit the timing cover using a new pump rubber seal. Job done.
Incidentally Norman White quotes on his invoices that if any type of anti-sumping device is fitted in the oil supply line his guarantee on any engine work done is invalidated.

Has anybody found a brand new oil pump that allows wet sumping ?

If yes, what quantity of oil, over what time interval and where & when was it purchased ?

Well now that you mention it...
I put in a new pump and an SRM OPRV about a month or so ago. There is a small puddle in the drip pan under the engine. If the weather ever
clears Ill take it out and monitor the oil level over the next week.

Yes, from Norvil. This was after I had lapped the gears of my old one as described online somewhere. The pump works fine and I don't bother draining the sump except after long winter storage. After 3 weeks the tank level is below full but not empty. During riding season I start the motor weekly usually, even if not riding it. Over the 4 months of winter it'll be all in the sump.

Hi Onder,
Where did you purchase your new pump from?
And how long ago?
Is the puddle from the SRM OPRV?

Hi Mylar
Presumably lapping your old pump did not cure the wet sumping?

Yes but if a daily rider is wet sumping then the pump clearances are way too large as well, the oil pressure will be no doubt too low.

Ideal time to service the oil pump (close the clearances up at least) along with freeing off the stuck plunger.
