Hi,

I purchased an oil cut off valve for my 1974 Norton Commando which has two wires that have to be connected to the ignition switch to preclude starting the engine with the valve in the closed position.

Could someone post a link to one of these valves?
Thanks!

MotoParts Inc is the only readily available device with ignition disable (I believe they acquired it from a guy in Canada called "IronJohns" or similar.

Anti wet sump valve sieze (2015)

I made my own out of a PEX 1/2 stainless ball valve from a hardware store ($5), a "Normally Open" push button micro switch (1/4" threaded mount hole with securing nut) for $10 and a bit of alu flat stock. The stock was drilled/filed out to slide over one end of the valve and be a snug fit, secured with JB weld. A 1/4" hole made in the stock for the switch to mount thru such that the button was held pushed in when the valve handle turned to fully open (as in the pictured setup)....thus making the switch circuit closed. With switch in series to the white wire ignition circuit running to #2 point on main switch, ignition is interrupted if the valve is not open to oil flow.

We fitted one of these to the Dommie yesterday

It looks slightly less like an indrustrial bodge than some of the alternatives I’ve seen

They do one with a relay for bikes with electronic ignition.
The Dommie has a magneto, so we went with the standard one.

We purchased it from a little setup in the UK called ‘The Magneto Guys’
http://www.themagnetoguys.co.uk/oil-tap-with-cut-out-switch
It’s spendy for what it is, but is saves the ball ache of draining the oil every time you want to start the bike.

We also have @comnoz’s sump plug breather fitted (plugged the timing case holes and blocked off the camshaft timed breather when we rebuilt the engine)

Because we fitted a six start oil pump gear to feed the top end from the oil pressure side ibstead of the return, we always get a lot of oil draining down after a ride, so even with the new cut-off valve fitted, Jim’s valve still has something to do!
