another TTI gb question

The gearbox is installed and I get full movement. I put on the inner primary and there is quite a space between the felt washer and the shaft. I will install a new felt washer but it looks like there is a big gap to fill. Is there another type of seal to use here with the TTI box or is the original felt the only thing there is?
 
I'm currently helping a mate with removal and replacement of his Mk3 primary and noted that it has a v-lip seal there.
How does that work, when you need some fore-and-aft movement?
 
Felt seal it is, then.
It’s what I used and I thought the fit looked good. A new felt seal looks a lot different to a 40-50 year old one!

But... my primary is dry, so whilst it suits my needs, and whilst I believe it would be oil tight, I don’t know for sure.
