There are two bushings that camplate and quadrant pivot in. I have two gearboxes, one a MK3 and another 1972. I can see the bushings extending a little bit into the gear case, the MK3 about 1/8" , the 1972 about half that. Which is correct?

Which is correct?
Have you compared the camplate and quadrant end float of each?
As you probably know the outer end of each bush should be approximately level with the shoulder of the recess on the outside of the case (leaving room for the O-ring) so that should result in approximately 1/8" protruding inside (Mk3 box below)...
MK3 GB question

I don't have a dimension for the standard bush.
The Mk3 quadrant bush, however, is shorter (as the Mk3 quadrant spindle is shorter).
