Ugh Kieth, I think you should continue to feel pensive about your mechanical competence-oversights on every ride out now, just like me, asking How Lucky Do I Feel, on 1st rebuild start ups and after every maintenance task or minor repair. I have not sheared off anything yet but having various vital fasteners back off to lock up something I tend to nip down a bit more than listed torque as have lost faith in the numerous lock tabs and loctite alone.
I had a rear brake lock up unexpected on Trixie in 1st couple weeks > 1 week before deadly deer *strike*, was in our village square full of all types of cycles, everyone appreciating the Norton, so decided to give a little show with 1 step on start and a short sprint out of square up steep hwy exit a few 100 yd only snicking to 2nd to 50 mph then eased on front and rear brake - which locked and caused Cdo to slide an upright diagonal path to edge of road with smoke trail to a stop, like on purpose stunt. I have since serviced Trixie rear area to seeming perfection but have never gotten it to be able to lock up so easy again so do not know what made it so effective prior as was not adjusted for much or any heating drag.
