I have a bag of several OPRV's removed from covers of engines I have rebuilt. Most of them had no shims and the most I have found was two shims. I should also say that the majority of the pistons were stuck closed or would only open partially. It is very difficult to remove a stuck piston without destroying the mesh screen, so I usually replace the piston and body. That being said, The OPRV is to prevent over pressurization of the oiling system, which is not particularly likely with ball and roller bearing crank. Even with a new OPRV you are likely to see low pressure on a gauge when warm.
