Yep, that would be JB Weld kneadable steel stick I have some of that as well as the tubed variety.
As luck would have it I had to lower the needle to be able to use the one I had, when I checked the plug I was impressed with the even light colour......pretty much spot on!
I think I prefer the idea of glue over solder purely on the basis of vibration! I think both would work.
When you honestly consider the price of the Amal parts and factor it into a race budget, it would be worth glueing up a couple with clips in different slots!
Quicker and easier to change on the day and no crawling around looking for the clip you lost!

Yeah, I tore apart my carbs the other day, and lost a clip in the dark garage. Had to go cannibalize the old Amals in the parts bin to put it back together. Of course, saw the new clip first thing the next morning when opening the garage door.
Having a set of "plug and play" needles does sound like a sweet idea.
Well carbs are bubble wrapped & with my sister in law ready for her visit to my nephew. Probably coming over at the end of July.
Carbs. I found black hi dome tops, also long bellmouths. I havnt cleaned them Ken but they look very usable. Hope you get out on the salt. Not managed to get out at all this season so far. However I have entered Donington.
All the best Chris

Thanks for the update, Chris. I'll look forward to trying them. At the moment, the bike is set up with the pair of 36 mm Amals that I last used at Bonneville with the 920 engine on nitrous. Should work reasonably well with the 750 on gas, but I still think it will do better with the 40 mm carbs. The first two meets of the year here in California at El Mirage dry lake were cancelled due to lake bed conditions (big cracks). I'm still hoping to get to run the bike at the July meet before heading to Bonneville in late August.
And thanks again for the help. It really doesn't look like we'll ever see new Amals again in the larger sizes.
Thanks again, Chris. I'm looking forward to trying them on the race bike. So far this year, all the El Mirage dry lake meets have been cancelled because of lake bed conditions. My first chance to run the bike is now the Bonneville meet at the end of August. I'll probably keep the 36 mm carbs on the bike for that event, where I'll be running with nitrous injection in the fuel class, and then switch to the larger ones later in the year to run in the gas class.
