Are there any recommended web based forums for buying parts. I used to buy a fair bit of Commando stuff from E-Bay but seldom see anything of any interest these days.

I did a lot of digging when restoring my bike and Ebay ended up being the go to source If I was not seeking new.
The majority of the "used stuff" vendors were Ebay based with the site itself offering some semblance of protection, note I said semblance.

This site is a good one as well as the other Classic British motorcycle forums..
I would post an "I'm in need of" part search and very often a forum member had what I needed.

Ebay is still my go to for used parts. However some shops like klempfs and Greg Marsh have some used parts for sale.

I think networking and keeping an eye on Craigslist is my best, but it is highly dependent on where you live. Facebook, don't see much except pie in the sky. eBay for me is good for some things but people are out of their mind with the prices at least for N15CS stuff. I don't think a lot of it is selling. If it were selling at the prices being asked I could part mine out and retire.

Thank you for the replies, Gentlemen. I live in Hong Kong, so E-Bay has historically been more accessible to me than sites like Craigslist. I've bought some good things on E-Bay USA in the past (I have a friend in the US who I can post the parts to), but I see lots of overpriced rubbish these days, many offered by the same vendors time and again for months. By the way gpzkat I myself have a G15, but fortunately I don't currently need any parts for it.

Ah, your country flag comes up with a missing image so I couldn't see where you are from. Yeah it's crazy, like $150 for a bent kick stand, or my favorite, an instrument mounting plate for around $100 which is available in repro for about 1/3 that. Do they think N15CS owners are that wealthy? I have offered reasonable 'make offer' prices on some stuff I needed, got rejected, and they sit unsold for years. Crazy.

I think that E-Bay has in recent years made things more expensive for the casual seller, so I see fewer people and more businesses involved. I suppose we are all victims of a dwindling stock of old bikes and parts and the notion that anything older than 20 years is a rare and valuable piece of 'automotive jewelry'. I saw a Norton bottom-end on E-Bay for several hundred dollars that has a crack all the way round the casing and even the flywheel is snapped through the middle, unusable cylinder barrels with cracked skirts, etc., etc. As you say new parts from reputable suppliers are often significantly cheaper than some of the rubbish offered for sale on E-Bay.

Recent changes in US tax laws have driven many sellers, including me, off of ebay. I had many good, useable parts after years of working on British bikes and collecting parts. I have been recently selling for cheap on other forums and giving away most of what I had just to be rid of it. As more sellers figure out that sales are now taxable, they may stop selling also. Only those who break bikes and sell as a business will be left. And that means they can, and will, raise their prices. It is no longer for hobbyists.
