I have a 72 roadster with twin 43mm mikuni VMs. I'm using the tubular foam air filters. I'm trying to find an alternative
but I've searched the K&M catalog to no avail. Does anyone know of an alternative to the foam filters. Thanks

If your carbs are really 43mm, not 30 or 32, this may not work. Oldbritts has a tech article about modifying a K&N filter to fit.

Actually, I tried this on my 70 model Roadster and it didn't fit. The filters ended up being higher than in the Oldbritts picture and interfered with the frame.

I have oval tapered K&N's on mine. I put them on a long time ago, but I recall they were half of a kit for a Suzuki 1000 or 1100. They clear the frame, but just barely. These have the outlet offset so the filter sits lower than the round ones that Fred Eaton used. Check out the RC-0984 K&N kit.

The down side is you get four to a kit, so if you can split the set with a buddy, the cost is better.

Take some measurements and compare with those on the website link. It has been a long time and this may not be the exact kit, but a little time spent with a ruler should find a set that you can use. Unfortunately, all the K&N universal filters I found at the time had the opening centered and would not clear the frame or were too long, so I had to buy the kit to get the offset flange. I'll try to get a picture to post when time allows.

I pulled off the sidecover for clarity. This bike has a pre-Mk3 battery box with the back airfilter plate removed

Thanks Littlefield & Ron L. Both of these are good leads. I'll follow up on both of them. I guess 8:00 PM is too
late in the evening for me. I transposed the carb size. they are 34mm, not 43. Thanks again.

Sorry, 32mm not 43.

Ramair filters are pretty good , don't seem so affected by the rain as k&n type filters also they filter the air unlike k&n filters
