I got this with a box of spares with my bike. I am guessing its an aftermarket tail light fairing/assembly. The fairing part is metal and does has turn signal stems mounted on it. It has a Lucas tail light assembly mounted to it. It appears to mount using 3 bolts through the fender, about the rear frame loop. What do you guys think, aftermarket/home brew?

"So ugly it has to be Triumph"??? What are you out of your goard? Take a look at Triumphs over the years, especially the 30's through to about 1961. Those are some very pretty & stylish bikes. I'm a Norton fan all the way but in the beauty department after the 1950's they aren't all "pretty"

That is the taillight from the 1971/1972 Triumph and BSA 650's. In the day it was referred to as the Gargoyle taillight. I recently sold 3 of the housings for somewhere between $5 and $10. They are plentiful and yes they are ugly. The lens however is referred to as the L679 lens and was used on Triumph's and BSA's from the 60's until 1973 when Triumph changed to a taillight lens similar to the late model Nortons.

Having had Triumphs longer than I've had Nortons, +4 with L.A.B. ,britbikemike and drp !!! And drp gives a great synopsis on it to boot ...

Now, those early 70s BSA/Triumph abominations are not the most beautiful. Heck, they are so ugly they probably sold more Commandos than anything else.

They were called a gargoyle for a reason.
