LED main, pilot & stop/tail light upgrade.

Forgot to photograph the Tail light bulb. Here it is, with the BPF replacement headlight bulb:
If the guy behind doesn't see this brake light, there's no hope - it's a real attention getter!

 
I just installed a Philips H4XU Ultinon in my TR44W and I'm pretty happy with it. It was a bit of a tight fit, but it's polarity insensitive, doesn't dim at idle with a shitty battery, and even my taillight's brighter now because it only uses about 22W but is about three times as bright as a halogen. I had to reprofile the bends in the retaining clip or there was no way I was going to get them to seat.

He was confused as to how it was 'reversing' on my bike, but told me to swap the wiring over. He threw in an led warning lamp to try in case that was impacting.

After talking to Paul I changed the lamps in the speedo and rev counter to led ...... same issue , hi beam warning lamp lights on dip ,,,,,
I will have to go back in to the headlamp shell again and to double check things ,

After experiencing 'reverse' issue with PG's light, I popped in one of these new Lucas BPF LED's to try and I'm delighted to report that it does what it is supposed to without swapping any wiring, i.e. high beam comes on when the high beam button is pressed.

Haven't obviously tested them yet to see what the beam pattern is like in the real world, but against my closed garage door, it looks promising 👍
 
Further to the above post, I'll also mention that I switched the warning lights to Lucas LED's too as per Greg's post #55 above.

For those in the US and Canada, I have a small supply of the new Lucas (Wassell) LEDs. I have tested on a Norton and Trident and all work.

They do not have bulbs for the turn signals and probably won't as most people would find changing the flasher and wiring to be challenging.

They have an H4 version of the bulbs in development, but they are not available for test yet.

I'm having my hip replaced on April 6th and will be unable to ship anything after April 5th for a while.

If you want a set, PM or email me. I will only sell them in sets right now: Headlight, Taillight, 2 or 3 Instrument/Pilot, 2 or 3 Warning. If you want to use one for the turn signal warning light, it will require some wiring and two diodes which I can supply along with instructions (soldering required).

I ask as the rear stop/tail light projector lens directs a red beam down toward the number plate (the bulb appears clear when off) and the surrounding mini LED's (LED chips?) are bright white. You would've though that would be the other way around wouldn't you?

The rear No plate is now iluminated in red. I'm not sure that's legal.

I have but missed this. So, these are excellent for the L679 taillights (pre-73). The license plate is illuminated in white, the tail is bright, and stop is super bright.

They are not usable for the L971 (Rectangular). Besides what you said, there is very little difference between stop and tail due to the orientation. I can't believe I didn't notice :mad:

Next, I'll write the owner of Wassell.

Yes, this would be a better option, just a little more expensive. Also, a couple of my bikes have the led boards from BCS and Morrie's Place:

Yes, and for just about any other tail light assembly then it would, but not the L917.
 
Its just over a month since I installed the Lucas LED lights and tonight was my first ride out in the dark. Pitch black country roads to be exact.

I can confirm that the headlight on both dipped and full beam is very effective. Not 150mph effective, but.more than enough for the speeds I'd want to go at.

Only one thing I'm going to change is the LED high beam warning light in the headlamp shell. I found that distracting and so I'll replace that with the original bulb tomorrow (and hope it doesn't throw any wobblers with the other LEDs).
 
Update. No wobbly throwing issues with swapping the dazzling green LED warning light bac k to the sedate & chilled out original.

All working as it should 👍
