Carrillo already has all the correct dimensions for Commando rods. When I've ordered custom rods from them, I have just told them I want standard Commando rods, except with specific changes I wanted, usually just different pin diameters and center-center lengths. They've never asked me for things like bearing tang dimensions and such. Their part number for the standard Commando rod is NO-COM>55875. If you find you really need the other dimensions, post again, and I'll pull a rod out and measure it.

that one is not carrillo custom, different brand

this is carrillo:

"We have our NO-COM>-55875S rods in stock. There is enough bushing wall thickness to bore and hone out the bushing for a 19mm full floating pin."

that means i can just get the NortonComm carrillo off the shelf and bore and hone them.. the question is will my machinist be able to bore and hone a carrillo rods there are hardened chromolly steel right?

anyone got a picture of carrillo for norton, i need to confirm the wall thickness

Kenny, it sounds like Carrillo is telling you there is enough wall thickness in the bronze bushing to hone it out for a 19 mm pin, so there is no need to bore the steel rod itself, just the bushing. I have a couple sets of rods Carrillo makes for the short stroke, and it looks like they have the same size bronze bushing as their standard Commando rod, but the bushing has been bored and honed to .751" to fit the .750" short stroke pin. If the standard Commando rod length will work for your Triumph, it really does sound like all you need to do is have them honed for the larger pin.

Here is a picture of a Carrillo short stroke 750 connecting rod, and a close-up of the pin end with the bushing honed to .751" (19.075 mm). Other than that, its the same as a standard Carrillo Commando rod except for being longer to accomodate the shorter stroke. As close as I can measure, the bushing has approximately .030" wall thickness.

sound great that means i just need to bore and hone the bronze bushing right, bronze i believe it can easily be bore and hone
and you mean by .030" wall thickness , after it been hone and bore to .751" (19.075 mm) it will leave approximately .030" bronze bushing wall thickness, please correct me if i'm wrong..

edit: just got off the phone with carrillo the bronze bushing thickness 1.56mm

That sounds about right, Kenny. If the original bushing wall thickness is 1.56 mm, boring and honing it to .751" would reduce the bushing thickness to about .030", right at what my rough measurement shows. You should have no problem fitting the 19 mm pin to a standard Carrillo Norton rod. If you are buying the rods new from Carrillo, you could just send them one of your pins, and they will hone the rod to size for it.

One thing to be careful of, the JS long rods dont have a bush in them, they use a DLC coated wrist pin.

That's a fair point to make, although I don't think Kenny was planning to modify one of Jim's long rods, since he's not using the matchin pistons Jim sells in his kit.

Jim went through a lot of work with Carrillo to convince them to shave down the weight of the small end of the rod. The whole point of using a DLC pin so the bush could be removed was to be able to machine the outside of the small end to smaller dimensions than their normal Commando rod, while still leaving enough material for strength. The Carrillo engineers were initially reluctant to lighten the small end as much as Jim wanted, and it took a lot of discussion between them and Jim to get the final design to suit both parties. It is quite an elegant solution. You definitely wouldn't want to try to bore Jim's rods out for a larger pin.

yep, Ken is right.. i hope this project goes well and i can post it in here the end result... i'm modifying my ignition right now using IGNITECH anyone ever use this ignition system before.. i guess i need to make another thread to talk about ignition... cheers guys thanks for the help and support..

Kenny, I've used Ignitech box on Yamaha single roadracer, but not on Norton. It's a great product. You can tailor the advance curve to anything you want with a laptop computer.
