I just got a new, Made in England, ammeter from Norvil and the gauge is not zeroed. Nice job on quality control... The needle just lies just to the + side of the 0 mark. Has anyone tried rezeroing one of these ammeters ? It looks like the bezel would come off easily and removing the nuts from the back of the case would free the works, but then what ?

The gauge cost less than $40 and when I check on mailing it back to England, the cost is between $30 and $45, i.e. makes no sense. i can live with the 0 being off a little, but it should be an easy fix. Ideas ?

Thanks

I've had CZ27s apart (Centre Zero) and the zero is adjusted by tweaking the needle a fraction. The old versions are quite straightforward to dismantle but you have to be careful with how the needle feeds through the slot in the dial or you'll end up having to bend it back far more than the original error. (I know about these things. :))

It turns out to be almost trivial to adjust the zero on this one. Once the meter is out of the case, there is a zero adjust screw on the back. I might drill another hole in the case to make it accessible from inside the headlight shell.

My original one seems to be sealed and is off to the left, but it looks like the whole assembly is off. Not that you can tell much when you're running down the road anyhow unless it's really discharging. Mine bounces all over + and -, but not excessive.

I thought it was a zero adjust too but it just tightens up the meter bearings. In my case zero was fully tightened so the meter just read zero all the time.

You could try to position a little magnet on the outside until it reads zero, then epoxy or crazy glue it in place.
