I bought a new ammeter (from Norvil). The pointer was not zeroed. Took it apart and zeroed the needle. Installed it, it passes current, but the needle does not respond to current flow. It is not worth sending back. The gauge was $40. Shipping would be $14 if I just threw it in athe smallest box that would barely fit or $45 for a box that would take some padding. Any ideas on what might be wrong or how to fix it ?

Thanks

Greg

Is it hooked up in series with the hot lead off the battery? It would be the negative lead on a positive ground system. I think a lot of people get short or zero life from their ammeters by using the assimilator leads on the harness.
I've heard of a few people that got duds right out of the box though.

Just remembered, check out the Adjusting the Zero on an Ammeter thread.

I thought it was a zero adjust too but it just tightens up the meter bearings. In my case zero was fully tightened so the meter just read zero all the time.

Thanks Bob, Another self inflicted problem. Eased off the bearing adjustment, used a magnet to center, works fine.
