I remember seeing a photo along time ago of the P11 face to face with an AC Cobra in reference to the P11 out accelerating all american cars apart from the 5ltr AC Cobra in the 1966/67 era. does anybody know where i can see the pic with the hope of copying it to my desktop.

Can't resist, I have an '86 Shelby GLHS. According to Hot Rod magazine, one of them "whipped" a V8 Shelby, not an AC, but a GT350.

It's fast but I doubt that it could whip my Commando.

I've had it on the track with late model ACs and there's no match. She can, however, push around those late model supercharged Mustangs but only on a shorter track. On a big track, my box can't make the big MPH.

I never had 4 wheels beat my Atlas in a drag race, but I once had a 289 AC Cobra slip up beside me as I was cruising along.

My hand went to the clutch lever, toe to downshift; his hand to the gear shift, and then his girl friend or wife started beating on his right knee. I can only imagine that she was saying "Don't you race that motorcycle!"

We both went back to relax mode, and continued our cruise. Who knows what the result would have been.

The only 4 wheeler to give me any competition was a chopped deuce coupe with a big chrome plated V8, multiple carbs, that idled about 1000 rpm, and shook while doing it.
He stayed even with me up to about 80 mph and when he up shifted, I left him.

Had a short stoplight-stoplight race with one of those back when the SS clone was a yellow 750 Roadster. Good thing it wasn't any longer or the Cobra likely would have left the bike for dead.

    A 750 Norton vs a 427 AC Cobra is a "No Contest", but I think a hot 750 has a good chance against a 289 AC Cobra.

Motor Trend's performance specs for the 289 AC Cobra of 1963
    1/4 mile e.t. 13.8 seconds at 104 mph
    Top Speed 130 mph.
So the Norton in the Quarter, the Cobra in the Mile.
