Norton Villiers Commando 1968 Re commissioning an adventures at 30

Got to say a big thanks to Ashley at Andover who did some measurements for me today so I could compare to what I have

all makes sense now adjuster is 0.300" an inch to short so kudos to lab for spotting less threads.

Bars have half an inch to much rise, 2.5 inch to much pull back and 2.5 inch to much length which is why my genuine 45" Cable is tight on the cable run.

Got a set of correct bars ordered from Andover along with the gearbox bits and new adjuster and nut gonna keep the bars on the shelf while I save up for the levers peacemeal. Got the locking tools as well so I can get the lever positioned and tightened correct and a new grommet for the stator wire to

Gonna order 1 tin of the Jag British leyland BLVC254 green this week to do a spray out then itl be that or the rover brooklands green, the ford laurel green didn't have the depth that the Jag one seems to have and the brooklands was a bit to light although deeper than what's on so hopefully third times the charm.

So all in all a productive day :)

Was bored out of my head before as I've just ordered a few bits so decided to cut the paint samples I did the other day,

On the pic with the tail unit
Left is ford laurel green, middle is rover brooklands green and right is the current colour god knows what it is but Ive never really liked it :)

Next step is the blvc254 and maybe gn29 to then it's time to pick a colour and go for it. All seem to lack a bit of depth to them.

Very cool they are indeed :)

Was just a little bit cold this morning haha! Once the sun came up I got 3 coats of everything on some test plates so hopefully I'll cut it tomorrow and I can make my mind up.

It was sodding cold this morning first thing
My car thermometer said -5
I had to lay in the road tying my back box up when my exhaust split !

I too was merrily scraping windscreen (inside and out!) at 5:40 this morning. Beautiful morning but a reminder why I don't ride this time of year, sun way too low and everyone squinting....
(Sorry Mate, didn't see ya!!)

The higher the stack height, the easier the pull.
I'd run the exsiting 5 plates, source the correct adjuster screw with jamb nut.
I also run the cable over the head steady along the bottom of the big tube, with loose straps.

Yep was about -5 was freezing! No way I could paint the tank and tail yet but got the test samples finished when the sun came up. Cleared correct primer etc so gonna colour sand n polish tomorrow so we can see how good it is.

Got the correct adjuster to go on the clutch biggest change was the bars the ones that were are totally to high got a set ready to go on from Andover once I've got the correct levers.
Next plan is to fit the gearbox outer cover new adjuster etc and try the clutch adjustment. Fit the oil pump over the weekend all being well to. The I need to wash the oil tank out with something fit all the lines and order a battery over the weekend so I can set the ignition really close now!

Years ago when I was painting one of my my 750s I got some British racing mixed (not in spray can) and then added blue tinter (a bit at a time to the mixed green to give it more depth and darkness...it looked good with the gold transfers
Those samples look a little milky to me..the added blue will cure that...if that what your after.

yep that's a good point mate totally agree

I'd say the brooklands is a bit to much yellow in the flesh, the 254 is far to deep to much black in it when the sun isn't on it looks like black paint, ford laurel is insepid, id say the gn29 is to blue somewhere inbetween is the right shade a you say needs a bit of depth/darkness but not quite as much as the 254.

Think I might get a can of bs227 when it warms up a bit which is deep brunswick green

Thanks mate not to far from me when this weather clears our road is sheet ice today an quite a bit of snow :) hopefully gonna get the oil pump on tomorrow necks been hurting with the cold so having a day keeping warm which is sending me crazy lol

I'm pretty sure they are in Dove holes

I'm reckoning at the moment the Jag green is just far to dark but I want to do a spray out without the clear coat on top and have a look at that after a few days. Having said that the lighting is weird today with the snow.

GN29 the mix that I was given has way way way to much blue an black in it that was a BASF system for what I'm after. Some of the codes have been reversed as well from what I've read up, buying an aerosol actually works out the same price as getting a sample done. I'd been reading over on some of the MG and Jag forums that everyone has a real problem with the mixes. Something in the middle of the two I think will be bang on. It's irritating because if I was doing a print mix I know I could get it. Looking forward to the move and hopefully being a bit better equipped for doing stuff like that.

Thinking BS226 mid brunswick green next.
