Can you please answer a question that I have posted in another section.

Are Nortons in USA sold on a "payment up front basis" including race machines.

Andy

YES.

What "race" machines?

On the Norton site there is a bit about race bikes, I thought given the importance of
USA to Norton they would be destined for there.

Having read the site more carefully one race bike has a Wankel engine and the other
"badged" Norton has an Appillia. So no customer bikes yet.

Andy

Andy, I asked Stu Garner back in 2009 at the Bonneville meet (where he rode the rotary race bike) if he would be selling any of them in the US, and he said no. He had considered racing them here in AMA races because AMA still had rules for allowing rotary engines, but decided against it. I asked if they would be willing to sell them to private teams here, for race use only, and he said no. One of his entourage had earlier in the week told me that they would be available. Stu said they had considered it, but decided the risk of bad press was too high. Too bad. It was a pretty impressive bike.

They had primary chains which I used to supply back in the day.

Soory to be a moaner but a Norton with an Apprillia motor, I would rather see
a Norton engined bike, I mean moded road motor, come mid field. Triumph started
slow and look at them now.

And I dont care how well built they are 7 months to build a bike!!!!!!!!!

Andy

I would like a peak at production but I doubt I would be allowed within
miles with the history. It would be nice to see actually how many suppliers
have been hacke doff.

Andy, to the best of my knowledge there must be a deposit made. In my case I didn't want to give a deposit because I didn't believe that the new Norton's 961 would ever hit US soil. As soon as I learned about the shipment to the US I contacted our regional dealer. They received two bikes. The first 961 was immediately accepted by one of the folks who had paid a deposit. The 2nd bike a "black dual seat" none of the other depositors wanted. So they gave me first shot at the orphaned bike. The dealer stated the bike must be paid in full immediately. So I wired them the amount they requested on the sales invoice the next day. I don't know if this helps answer your question. So far they haven't released the bike to me yet stating it needs to be serviced? However the other buyer already took his bike home. Hopefully RPM Cycles will be contacting me soon letting me know the bike is ready to be picked up. I will keep everyone posted on what transpires.

Great News! RPM Cycles has contacted to let me know my bike is ready to be picked up! Now I just have to find time to go get it! The trip is half way across Texas. That is 600 miles! It takes me about 10 hours to drive it one way. Hopefully I'll have it here early next month!

Next month ??

If you left now, could be back the day after tomorrow.
With enough miles up to get its 1st service ??!

Not soon enough for us!

Perhaps I could be of assistance here. I still have a week off work and would be happy to pick the bike up and deliver it to you, free of charge on my behalf or coarse. Just goodwill from one forum member to another. :D :D :D

I'd sure make contact with the first pick up owner and ask why his could be ready to go right away but the 2nd one ain't? Might be fun to get together with the 1st 961 and have a new paper take photo's of the new kids on the block grinning ear to ear with the coolest motorcycles around, next to the real thing of course. There is a youtube series of how the dealers are to prep new bikes.

From Brit Iron List revealing some historic Norton tradition the New 961 carries on...

I talked to the Triumph dealer down the road from my house (metro Los Angeles area) and they are supposed to get 6 new 961's in the next week or so (all pre-sold). The best I could do was to see one in the back room taken apart with a snapped cam chain. Looked like a very robust clutch basket and gear primary drive, I think it has a 270 degree crank. It has quality Ohlins front and rear suspension. The machining and castings looked to be very high quality. Nice and thin at the knees.

The prices quoted ranged from about $18,000 - $22,000 depending on the configuration.

best,

doug

The new bikes don't have a primary belt like the old bikes did. They are now gear driven with a counter balancer in the middle. Some of the bike had a recall on the valve stem seals. I was lucky that my VIN was not one of the bikes that had to be serviced.
Here is a photo of my bike just out of the crate.
