961 is back !

A classic sounding classic machine? Personally I fond off the sound of working machinery.
Yes, does seem to have a fair bit of clatter when the view moves to the handlebar instruments up front.
Is the bike one of the "40" promised to those who ordered from SG, or one of the NEW 961's?
The NEW 961's are supposed to be considerably re-worked/re-engineered from the "40".

One of the 40.

In Australia, some of the guys who race historic cars have built replicas of old racing cars. There is one event organiser who hates replicas, because he believes they devalue the originals. Type 35C Bugattis are now built in Brazil, and there is one in Australia. The attention to detail is spectacular. However it will never be the real deal, and it could never sold as one. The same probably applies to Commandos. A 961 might look similar to an original from the 1970s, but it will never be one.
I have a print of a painting by Monet hanging on my lounge-room wall.
If I was going to buy a modern bike, I would not buy a 961 from China, or even one which just had a Chinese motor.

TVS can’t sell a bike with SG made parts remember?
Same reason why they couldn’t sell us spare parts.
They claim the old parts didn’t meet their quality standards.

We'll end up with parts. TVS will sell them.

Will they be numbered consecutively? (As the Dominators were?) Or will they all be: '1 of 40' ??
They all say 1 of 40
The SG bikes weren't actually consecutive either ie Dominator Street, number 1 and number 50 were made. Dominator Donington, number 1 and number 6 were made. First production V4ss made was number 121.
The latest run of 961's appear to use the same Taiwanese parts that Norton used for the past 10yrs.....albeit I assume, given benefit of doubt here with video engine clatter aside, with stricter tolerances applied.

The reason I asked was because I vaguely remember seeing Dominators with the hashtag (# for our older viewers!) before the: 'of', suggesting each had a different number.
Whereas this doesn't...

I have a 2016 sport and it sounds quieter than the new one on u tube, have long opens and lambor sensors removed and decat.

Submitted an internet enquiry to Norton a couple of days ago asking about timeframes for parts availability. Got quite a speedy response explaining the situation, which is positive.

Nothing that we have’nt read before however, the first time (I think) that we’ve had definitive notification of spares sales - with caveats as you would expect. Patience required I guess - easier for those of us with a functioning motorcycle of course.

Good news though, as the overwhelming majority of spares will be common between SG and Birmingham Norton 961’s. If you need spares now, there was an indication that they are taking spares enquiries and will provide pricing (and potentially delivery ahead of the spares department opening?).

Only good for commandos. Not dominators.

@Stephen_Spencer I have received an actual quote for parts and have progressed to an order.
