961 Corbin Seat

Well, obviously...

Nigel,

I hope the factory 2-into-1 is a well done as this one, or better.
You could send a copy of this to your inside contact there so they know what to shoot for.:D

Sorry for polluting the Corbin seat thread.
But, I'm a desperate man.

Although completely open pipes are illegal in New York, they are not part of the inspection process. Tires and lights is about all they look for.

And if what we heard is true , The Henry Cole 2 into 1 will only need the Y pipe and footrests hangers. These will be higher foot pegs as seen in the photos. So more clearance for cornering ! Then put back on the duals /lowerpeg hangars for the long trips ! Perfect solution.

Hummmm, then it's a none starter for me.
I have SBN headers not the stock factory units.
I thought it would be a full new de-catted system.
Oh well, back to the drawing board, or rather the CAD scope.

It is a DE-catted system . I didn't know that Matt Capri also made the head pipes when he sold those systems. Even so , You should still have the original Norton Head pipes right ? Or the whole Norton stock system when you bought the bike , No ? The Street uses the 961 Head pipes , takes out the cat and puts in the Y pipe and the single muffler . Now , when the bike is sold it may come with the stock exhaust and you have to put this on after for OFF ROAD . This is perfect because you can change back when you need to . The pegs are at least 1 in higher on the Street 961 when you change to the Domi open exhaust hangers. Look at the photos you will see and compare ...

Tony,
Yeah, I suppose I can reinstall the stock headers which I still have, but I was hoping that the new system would be redesigned to avoid the crankcase drain plug. That way you avoid the sloppy mess oil change. John Snead was going to reroute the pipes away from the drain plug if he decided to make & sell them, but I guess the effort was cancelled. Also the racing system exited from the left side which provided vastly improved corning clearance, while eliminated drive chain interference.

Just one final nitpick, I wanted a polished S/S system, not the trendy unfinished heat effected welds - all the rave for the techies today, just but not my cup of tea.

I'll wait and see how people like their 2-into-1 slipons, maybe there will be some positive feedback.

There may be good clearance to the chain on this 2 into 1. We will have to wait and see . But , I know we covered this before . I have no trouble at all getting to my oil drain plug , or draining oil out of the sump. Others say they can't reach the drain plug , I must be lucky ? And finally , we won't know what it will really look like until it hits the showroom finished !

I have have the SBN pipes. I have to drop the pipe to reach the drain plug with an allen wrench. I just received the magnetic drain plug from AF1 so I think getting an open wrench on that will be much easier because it's straight. 35 bucks for a plug. Grrrr…..

Sometimes the DB killers do seem to fall out after passing inspection Tony...

Different silencers are an option. Lot of fabrication work though, that I’m not keen on right now (focus is now on the 920). I’m actually still hoping Norton come through with the 2:1 idea...

I heard that Mallory has dynamic (on track) measurement as well as static. is this right? I am planning to construct a removable db killer device though it pains me to restrict such a glorious noise; kind of like making Bocelli perform in a small auditorium with a bucket on his head.

Hi Britfan , I wanted to ask you if you have the whole SBN system like BritTwit ? SBN headers + SBN Decat + SBN mufflers ?

I do. I had the first gen long open pipes which I loved. I, unlike Fred, never had the chain hitting the pipes nor any cracking. When I went down, I have a 2" diameter rash on the left pipe. I bought a pair of generation 2 pipes that are a little more upswept. Pretty similar in tone. The trick to not having the chain hit I believe is to mount the X pipe slightly tipped down on the right side by a few degrees. If you look closely, you can see the right silencer slightly lower that the left.
But yes....headers, decatted X pipe and silencers all SBN.....and a great system. Durable and beautifully finished...all for 2 grand. Oy.
Pity they went under.
