Apologies for the photo - its Not A Norton. I am using it as an illustration on how the 77 cent tool works. You start with a dowel (77 cents at hardware store) that will slide easily into the bolt holes for your gearbox cover or Mark III primary cover or whatever. Cut it into 2 1/2 or 3 inch pieces (I got 20 pieces out of my dowel) If the part that you want to bolt into is smaller in diameter than the cover holes, use a pencil sharpener to make the dowel fit.You can then push the dowels into the bolt holes with no damage to the threads, put the gasket over the dowels, and then push the cover onto the dowels and in place. The gasket will stay where it is supposed to go despite having to massage the cover (gearbox cover full of parts) onto shafts and such. Remove one dowel at a time and insert bolts.

Excellent idea!

It s indeed a genius idea that would sadly prove too costly once shipping from the US has been factored in for us in the UK who work in Pounds & Pence.

I use long SHCS with the head sawed off. Lengthy unthreaded shank for piloting. I carry M6, 8, 10 & 12.

Mostly on machinery with heavy parts.

Loctite 518 and the cover locating dowels holds gaskets in place on motorbikes.
