750 S/S center stand

I have a 1971 S/S and my stand has a skid plate is this correct?The bike is stock and 6000 miles on it.

Your stand has a skid plate? The '71 SS is the only Commando to come with a skid plate, although the plate was offered in the parts book as an accessory for all '71 and later Commandos. This is a sheet steel plate with a tab that fits to the frame crossmember and then at the front frame tubes with two clamps. It will not fit frames earlier than 1971.

I have the large skid plate with the tabs but the centre stand has a 1/8 thick plate that covers the openings in the stand and is held in place with four clips.The other odd thing is the front wheel is 21 inch rim it looks ok with the high front fender and handles well.
