Been working on the 750 the last couple weeks, taking part here in upstate NY, before it get too cold and moving parts to my warm basement bench. I'd thought I would have to junk the exhaust, rims, chainguard and re-chrome the remaining chrome bits, but maybe not after-all? I'm thinking I would try to salvage as much of the original parts as possible, but if they are not original I would replace. Which leads me to my current question regarding my exhaust. I thought it was likely original, but there are bits I've not seen elsewhere in my picture collecting the last month. I have a galvanized splice between the muffler and the header, along with clamps I've not seen elsewhere. Both the muffler and header are 1 & 3/8's, so they would mate up, but would they likely then be too short without the splice? Anyway, anyone seen this arrangement and why else would one do this?

Thanks

It's hard to say but I'd say either your mufflers or headers are after market or they both are. That center piece is definitely not stock but reducer/expander fittings are common amongst after market stuff although you have one that is also an extender. If it is galvanized I'd say it was made up at a muffler shop. The muffler clamp is typical after market or Dunstall. Your header nuts are - one 750 (the lighter one) and the other is 850 (with the squarish fins). The 750 nuts were easy to put out of round if you removed them after they were seized on so I always preferred the heavier 850 nuts.

Looks like someone may have had to cut your header pipe for some reason and had to make a splice?
