72 Commando wiring

The wiring on my bike was a fire waiting to happen so ripped it out 23 scotchlocs as well including house hold wiring . Anyway just a couple of points my bike is fitted with a modern Reg/Rectifier 2 yellows 1 red 1 black , I'm assuming yellows go to Alternator red live black earth? And a boyer is fitted ,does it matter which coil wires go to left or right.? I've a new loom so a lot of connections won't be used but I may fit indicators so available wiring is there. Cheers

Yes.

No. Not if the electrical system is standard positive earth.

Reg/rec red is the positive wire so is 'earth'.

Both yellows to alternator.

And on a standard positive wiring setup. Red positive to earth.

What are your other red wires going to? Is the positive on the battery going to earth ? ie the frame

Why not take the opportunity to convert to negative earth?
Easy to obtain led headlight bulbs and tail lights /indicator bulbs
One of the reasons I changed was so I could use an 02 sensor this has been a great help to me setting up carburettors

Whatever you do, make a wiring diagram with the wire colors noted for future trouble shooting. Nothing worse than trying to track down a problem in a wiring harness that only has two colors of wires!
