Could someone provide a photo of where the upper end of the spring mounts onto the frame for a 69 S model sidestand ? Thanks.

It hooks into the hole you can see on the lower left of the bracket. If you want a picture of it assembled, let me know and I'll get it. If you have an S, would you be willing to share your bike ID number and manufacture date, I'm keeping a list and have about 16 or 17 by now from this forum.

I have been told that the side stand is a potential weak spot. It is OK for holding up the bike kinda but should not be used when kicking the bike. Always put the bike up on the center stand when starting.

I've been starting this bike on the side stand from day one. Even used the old pin that was in there and haven't had any problems. But I've changed that for a grade 8 bolt, and nylock. The KS is on the RS and the stand is on the LS, so hopefully you are not giving the stand that much pressure. I also make sure it is not leaning way over like it wants to do, I put a 1x something under the stand and that also helps the bike stand upright more or you can get one of the tires in a slight depression. I also start it standing on the pegs, not off to the side. I really don't know what people are doing that makes the side stand fail. It helps if it's easy to start too, like not kicking it 10 times. Mine always starts first or second kick.

I thought it might hook in there. The centre to centre distance on the holes is about 6 1/2 inches when the stand is down and the spring I have is about 5 1/2 inches which seems like quite a stretch. If you could send the assembled pic would I appreciate it. I will send the info I have on the bike.

The hole to hole distance on mine in down position like the picture is right at 5 1/2". Don't know how long the spring is not assembled, didn't want to pull it off. Yes, they seem to be a but short, I keep a block of wood around to stick under it.
