G15 sidestand question

The side stand on my G15 is sprung such that the stand will auto-retract the moment the bike is stood upright, like an airhead BMW. Is this the normal springing? It does work but I find it just as annoying as I did on the BMWs I used to own.
 
Quick question, I'm putting together a G15 and the side stand seems way to short. Were there different lengths of them?

Mine's too short too, and it is the correct one with the extender tang as far as I can tell. Mine was badly bent, no doubt due to someone kicking the bike over on the stand (SMH!) but a hydraulic press straightened it. It's been discussed here on other threads with measurements. I have had other British bikes that have a lot of lean on the sidestand. A hockey puck helps.
