Am finishing up getting 69 back on the road after parking it 12 years ago with ethanol/tank issues. New steel tank, Pazon, tires, carb rebuild, so hoping to be in top running shape soon. Have the old supposed-to-be-clear oil tank indicator which I can't see through, so wondering how to make sure I have enough oil but not too much in the tank. Breather tube is cracked, on the fix list, and a lot of oil spitting up through that. Drained and put in the spec amount of oil, didn't do anything obviously stupid like topping off when cold. Any suggestions?

. Drained and put in the spec amount of oil

I don't know how it is possible to be more correct about the amount of oil than doing exactly what you did

After doing that, I would ride the bike a short distance and recheck what the dip stick registers, or replace the sight tube with something suitable. That is the level I would keep mine at then.
Dereck.
