I am new to this forum and on my 3rd Commando. My first two were done before this BBS took hold, so plenty of letter writing and listservs in those days.

This forum is a godsend. I am frustrated by broken links to older topics (common when data moved between servers), but all in all I wish I had this resource years ago. My fault is to often ask a question before I have performed due diligence in research, but to understand linearly with a piece missing, well then you have to go to the folks in the know, and that is this forum / BBS.

I think maybe most new folks to this BBS probably ought to have to purchase a year's worth of VIP membership to cover their undue burden? That would apply to me anyways...

nice fact that you just brought up, a ton of broken links remain & for some time now,

i understand from a prior server change/upgrade

In the over 15 years on this forum and only 1222 posts, I am sorry to say I have learned very little technically from the posts here.
Ask for some research survey info...crickets mostly...I end doing most of my research on my 14 commandos/ 4 featherbeds/ 2 gardengate nortons and a huge pile of fleamarket items in my where?house and local club members bikes..

I do not doubt that you have learned very little technically here , but one can also learn a lot by using the bikes for what they where intended for .
Did you ever ride one of those 14 Commandos/ 4 featherbeads / 2 gardengate Nortons past the Artic circle ? , or to the west coast and back ? .
Technical knowledge allone is no garantee for a practical and reliable motorcycle .
It can only be a start . Research is nice , but only travelling will learn you what works and what does not .
The proof of the pudding is in the eating , like they say in French ..
