So, there should be a forewarning to this forum stating: some information contained within may be dangerous to your Norton. Follow at you own peril.

Looked at your history and in the 3rd post of your first thread it was suggested you use the search feature, which I fully concur with, as MANY posters ask questions for the 10th or 20th time...and has been answered many times.
Without search, the internet/forums have no memory...zero
so search first cos everything has been covered 20+ times or more, but
In the over 15 years on this forum and only 1222 posts, I am sorry to say I have learned very little technically from the posts here.
Ask for some research survey info...crickets mostly...I end doing most of my research on my 14 commandos/ 4 featherbeds/ 2 gardengate nortons and a huge pile of fleamarket items in my where?house and local club members bikes.
97% of the PM are helpful, friendly and appreciated.
then at best you will "have learned very little technically from the posts here."

if you want the goods, deal with me via PMs

gimme a break

I think that is generally understood -as it applies to the whole Internet.

How is a newbie to deal with a comment from a longtime, frequent posting member who says he uses Locktite on the head fasteners?

Well, he’d also read the many posts that explain the frequent re-torquing procedure... he’d then ask himself ‘how do I accurately re-torque a loctited fixing’?

Then he’d check with every known similar application he could think of and discover a complete absence of loctite.

Then he’d check with his mates down the pub who would say ‘tha’s a fookin ejut... tha wants some copper slip on them tha nors’.

And all would be well.

doesn't take much to figure out who the go to folks are, or if in doubt ask away

Maybe, maybe not.

You are coming from the prospective of experience. Some of the site visitors and new members are neophytes, not only on Nortons, but limited mechanical background as well.

why are you bringing that up yet again in yet another thread when a dedicated fresh thread was already started for u to make your case?

That’s true.

So let’s assume they also live in an area with no access to a NOC club branch or expert.

The alternatives are:
1. Use the internet, search diligently, and apply ones own filter to what you read. You will still get it wrong on occasions, but you’ll get better, faster, than the guy below...

2. With no access to anything, you blunder through based on how your grandad taught you to fix your bicycle. Yes you have a manual, which helps sometimes, but not others. You embark on a very long, very expensive learning curve, learning from each blow up along the way.

Number 2 is how most of us learnt as young uns.

Number 1 has to be better.

Sure wish I had the internet to draw on when I first started out destroying motorcycles !

the next new young folks know the basics of the internet in their sleep

Nobody is born a fully qualified mechanic. We learned by doing (tons of mistakes) and advise (good and bad).
I have had brit bikes since I was 19 but my success rate shot up when the internet came along and climbed again
when AccessNorton arrived.
Huzzah AccessNorton!

No doubt if a new member were to read something in a post on this forum that was the least bit controversial the thread would become quite lengthy with everyone posting their thoughts on the matter. Thereby he/she would have several options to chose from.

It's an excellent forum.
The biggest problem is the same as with any forum-
There are a few Members who continually run without a filter- and I'm not referring to their bikes :)

new pump??? ouch only 25psi, what kind of oil? Good to have a gauge though.
I'd be looking closer for 40-45 when new @50W.

Frankie is an honorable guy...admitted his laps of memory and did not take offense (I hope, to a very little zinger)
Since he asks a question, I'd answer his question about early scrolled (puke pressure) rocker shafts.

The early low pressure systems have the oiler origin "flat" on the shaft, which is also the origin of the scrolling on the shaft, it must face the ball end of the rocker to allow oiling and also allows the main low pressure return oil to also flow to the tank.

"40-45 PSI when new @50W" -- thanks for sharing that. A nice gem of information.

New users are joining all the time, and others may post who didn't post before in previous similar topics, so no reason to only use search and not post a question again.

With your background as a Norton mechanic, I would hope for the sake of your clients that there wouldn't be a lot of information here that you didn't already know.

Quite obvious to most.
