Gday All, Westach of USA make this rather neat 2"electric dual gauge. Its mainly aimed at the aircraft industry and I run one in my small plane with no problems. Can handle lots of G,s etc.
2" Dual Oil temp/press gauge

Im contemplating using one on my special build bike,it would fit nicely between the other clocks and not look out of place. It sells for $102 US and $50 US gets the loom and sensors. An adapter can fit both sensors in one place if required(head supply). I will be running a Power box and may have to convert to neg ground to run this, Im no electrics guru, so Im asking is it doable? An other problem could be, is it waterproof? Could be made water proof perhaps if not.
Rgds Foxy

They generally frown upon too much water in the cockpit so I doubt it's waterproof...

Is the sending unit designed to screw right into the head? If so, how do you plan to mount it? If it mounts on a piece of tubing it could be isolated and wired according to needed pos/neg (or find out from the manufacturer if it cares which way the juice flows). If the guage is grounded through its housing (do they do that on aircraft?) you could mount it in rubber or plastic to isolate it and get the wiring sorted out for pos earth. I dunno about the water proof aspect.

They a bargain for what Westech offers but you must check the
sensors in boiling water as CHT set had one read 25'F low, but
I knew ahead of time.

They ain't meant to be water proof but mine lasted fine in
a number of rain rides or getting left outside.
Ultra light aircraft catalogs have plastic bullet shape
housing and ball clamp bar mounts for style and fair weather
shield. Hot rod and Harley catalog have the pricey
billet chromed versions.

Its both very informative and interesting to watch live
needles responding to loads and speeds and throttle blips.
Ms Peel will use one dual Westech gauge for CHT and EGT.
She has a MGB vintage Smith gage to read oil PSI and temp.
Here's her prior gauge cluster for sense of my gauge addiction.

I used to live near Westach and they made me custom guages. You might try contacting them for advice, they used to be very good about it.

Geez Hobot, thats one well decked out Norton, all them gauges is nearly mesmerising.Got to admit I love to know what the motor is up too.

Yeah Swoosh, defintaely frowned upon getting the cockpit wet(LOL), PO of my Bi-plane used to fly along the Murray River upside down and wave to everyone and managed to stay dry!

Rvich, the gauge is of sturdy plastic make and has to be earthed through the wiring loom. The sensors I,d probably mount separate, one in the oil tank and the other at head for pressure, this would be less bulky perhaps.

Thanks Cookie, I might contact them as you say, what were your gauges for?

Many thanks for the replys Rgds Foxy

I owned a small bus company with about ten Greyhounds. I ran three out of each caost each week NY to SF. We also chartered all the big events like Mardi Gras. I ran double everything for guages and warnings as well as guages mounted in the rear.
At the time all tachs had a cable or for buses a manually driven generator at the engine. Oil got into the tach genrators at the sustained rpms I ran them. I managed to seal them but I still could not get a whole summer out of a tach. I approched Westach to see if they could do a full electronic for me. It ended up with a magnet in the flywheel and a sensor, as far as I know that design is still used. After fitting those I don't recall ever replaceing another tach and I went to Westach for all my replacement guages.

Thanks Foxy,
It didn't take me long after this photo to flip both Peel's Westech
dia; gauges and both mirrors under the bars for a lot sleeker look
and still easy to glance at.

After a while you get a sense of what they should read
in how you are operating bike. Helps tune too. But once
set you can remove gauge and go by feel.
Until crashes busted up the works, I'd lend the CHT/EGT
out to folks to monitor and dial in their rides.

New Peel may get fancy digital data logger of various things
such as speed and tach, plus aircraft instruments in her fairing,
but bars will have the temp and pressure dial gauges.
I'll just use one gauge time like your for one sparkplug
CHT and one temp needle in 2-1 collector.

Gday all, thanks again for the informative replys.
Off Topic I know but diablouph, not sure what you mean but I dont fly any higher than 5000 ft unless mountains are in the way. Ive done aerobatics for a few years in my Baby Lakes Bi-plane. Its rated at 9+ 9-,tougher than me!
Rgds Foxy

9G rating is beyond most human brain blood supply : )
Speaking which, I want to add a G force gizmo like
the dash board dyno deals. Some also measure side G's.
Racers and snow stunters have data loggers with GPS
at both ends to records slides and skews as well as speeds
and G's. $$$$$
Any feedback on these appropriated.

Basically, If Hobot plans on getting high on Mrs. Peel, he should have the proper instrumentation. Otherwise, the Federal Aviation Administration (or some other government entity) will ground him.

Early on I realized crashes from on high were more scary than
ground level ones -damik.
WWII radial fighers, crop dusting helicopters and soar planes
struck off realistic list of hobbies.
Potent water craft worked for me prior with softer landings to laugh about.
Boats can have lots of gauges besides just engine monitoring ya know.
Gizmos Galore!

Seriously I need some recording GPS plus a video visual way to record Peels
antics and entertain me away from jail bait rates.

A few items on Peel are from ultra light catalog and light air craft
and they display all these cool flight and direction and
attitude and turn coordination and elevation change rates ...
Peel's vintage fairing is about a virgin blank canvas to fill in.
Sub woofers in the lower skirts too, may be if bored.

Hobot, all these gauges.... you,ll be wanting a blower to find the extra HP required to lug it around! The G meter would be for the antics of the rider, not miss peel. A good sign with "Caution, frequently sideways " could be appropriate? LOL

Foxy, my parents told me - just wait till I have my own-
hmm, so I didn't.

One of Peel gauges is a vacuum-boost in realistic range of Drouin
or me. Plan was boost my potent accidental Combat engine set up, so
gauge was functional, the day I finally ran with the Monster Squadron.
Anywho only their track trained leader would play hard,
so we parked minutes ahead of the pack, I went off to weewee
and came out to see asses-elbows encircling Peel all having
an argument of where I'd hidden the turbocharger!!!! LOL!!

Hi there Foxy. I have the 0-100psi gauge in the bottom right corner (see my link below).

This is the one supplied to me from OldBritts and the type that they use(d)? for their oil pressure gauge kit. I have also bought one (from flea bay USA) for my T160. I for one would recommend one if you want an oil pressure gauge, and it is of an appropriate size for you. I did have some probs getting a fitting for my own purchase as it is if I recall correctly, it is American National taper pipe thread.

Hehe, my G's meter are in the strain of my wrists, blood and brain
slosh plus the pressure on my sacrum. I've ridding a few fast
cornering moderns in their element, but only Peel flashes me
back to salmon water ski strains of G's in turns. Can't shake
the high, so might as well give in to it.

The Westech's are not weather or moisture proof but mine
have been rained on a good bit riding or left out and they
worked as usual though lens fog took a while to clear.

Electric oil pressure and temp senders may be a booger as grounds
thru its mount. I went mechanical senders as will next Peel

Try plain auto gage cluster but ughly so put it on my riding mower

Gday Reggie & Hobot,
if I buy one it would be the 100 psi item aswell, Ive got the SRM stainless pressure release valve that comes set at 60 psi.The thred on the back of gauge could be troublsome but will look into that.

Also thinking about grinding through the hardend ends of the intake rocker shafts to supply oil through to the other side thus eliminating the oil feed crossover line and taking off from that point as the feed to pressure gauge?? Is there anything nasty lurking in that Idea? The purpose for this exersice would to try and keep the motor tidy and eliminate stacked fittings.

I also see in Marshall instruments stock, is listed a 1" temp gauge with a 5" probe, could be possible to fit in oil tank.
