1975 Commando 850 restoration

Silver ‘Smootrite’ is good for this. Dunno if it’s available over there tho ?

Sorry, bad recommendation on my part, it appears it’s not available in the US.

Just finished up cleaning and priming the switch clusters. I'll paint them tomorrow

Thanks for trying to help out.

Finally finished with the paint. The wifey-poo painted the white. I'm very pleased.

Before I reassemble these controls, should I hit them up with a clear coat?

the aluminum color looks good to me. if i may suggest; find someone local to you who has a sand/grit blasting cabinet, and stuff like the triple clamps could be blasted clean and then painted, yes more disassembly work but the final result will look better.

when i did the basket case rebuild all steel (i mean all) items were sand blasted, the frame went to a commercial sandblast and paint shop and came back with a coat of epoxy prime,

there is fun in the stripping (take lots of pictures) and fun in the reassembly..

Disassembled my front end this week. It's no longer a roller. Cleaned up, primed and painted the speedo and tach. Looks pretty good to me. Before, primed and final result.

Remove bottom end, transmission, wiring harness, extract swingarm spindle from cradle, pull and inspect isolastics, etc. Depending on how badly the rear iso bolt is frozen you could have a week to go yet...

G.P. you killjoy...Larry was stoked about thinking he had only the "Z" plates and side stand :)...just kidding, but...Iso's are probably shot. Lookin' Good though ,Cj

Larry, great job. Did you paint the clock bezels? if so what with, they look really good.

Thanks for the advice. When I started this project I really didn’t know how far I was going to go with it. I really didn’t know what I was getting into with this but the farther along I go the more I want to do. I’m having a blast with this rebuild!
That said, my plan at the moment is to leave the bottom end and trans in the frame, remove the wiring harness and clean/paint the frame. After that I plan to replace the rear iso, install the pistons, rings, cylinder, the head and head steady. Next will be the front iso. After that the layshaft bearing and some clutch work plus general inspection of all the other innards.
