1972 Roadster Rebuild

Ok, I've used Simichrome forever. I'm guessing Mothers might be better for a larger buffing wheel and a larger part like the timing cover or the drive side cover. I'm getting some next trip to the auto parts store.
 
Cover is now polished with Mothers and waxed. It did come up looking much nicer, more than acceptable to my standards, and I found it easier to just polish with the Mothers by hand.

An update to this thread is way over due. Long story short, in Jan. I was diagnosed with ALS. Work on the bike had been slowing down and as winter set in, the cold and snow flat kicked my butt. I realized I couldn't physically handle another winter in this house. I figured the best home for the Norton was The Classic Bike Experience in Essex Jct, VT. Nick had already done all the engine rebuilding repairs and prep that I had no experience doing. He was already going to pick up the cases to install the hardened cam spacer that was accidentally left out before the cases were joined back together. So yesterday I gave everything to them to build and do with as they see fit. They will keep me updated with progress and photos so I can keep this thread going.
 
That's tough news to take, I hope you are able to continue semi-normal activity for a good long time. It'll be nice to get your bike back, knowing it's being taken care of well. So, are you planning a household move?
 
Thanks guys. That's my hope too G.P., although it's pretty "semi" now. I'm afraid the Combat is not coming back, but it's in good hands. Yep, I've got to leave my present "out in the country by myself" place before next winter, most likely living at my daughter's, the next town over. Last winter really kicked my butt here. I have to say the VA is taking very good care of me. For some unknown reason, a noticeably higher percentage of military veterans contract ALS compared to the general population, and the VA has really stepped up with good care and support, and luckily I'm only about 45 minutes away from an excellent facility.

The reasons are not unknown.

The V.A., and some private institutions, are compiling relational cause/effect databases to better pinpoint causes of cluster maladies. Garbage burn pits are the latest big cause to be positively nailed down...
 
Have a couple friends I flew with in Nam fighting ALS. You're in my thoughts and prayers, brother. Keep up the fight.
