Could someone post a photo (or a good description) of a 1970 lower triple clamp and steering stops? I'm helping a friend put together a 1970 Roadster and it doesn't look quite right. The headstock has two stops welded to it instead of one as on the later models, but there doesn't seem to be any corresponding stops on the triple clamp. It doesn't look right but I don't know what it's supposed to look like.

Thanks!

The FRAME has a lug on the RS top of the steering head that is used to lock the steering with the steering lock. The lower 2 lugs on the frame steering head contact the lower fork crown to stop steering movement. The arrows on the 2nd pic show where the lugs have been contacting the lower fork crown. There are no lugs on the fork crowns, only the steering lock.

That's how this one is too. I thought it was odd the way the lower triple contacts the stops, but I guess that's just how they are.

Looks like it won't work with an Interstate tank, fork tubes would hit the tank. Roadster tank is ok though.

On my old Norton I drilled and tapped those little blocks and used bolts for steering stops.

It might work if you can find a 1970 Interstate tank :)

Perhaps the later introduction of the Interstate tank was the reason for the rather restricted lock on later models ? I have long thought that the lock-stops are far too wide for the Roadster tank.

Do '70 and earlier models have a tighter turning circle ?

This is a long time ago but I had a 70 and a friend had one that was about 1972 I think. I could turn my bike in the garage and we had to lift his around.
