Was talking to a cantankerous old bastard ( no, it was none of you guys.... :D, I'm sure there are some on this fourm that can cantanker with the best of them, just not this time :D ), about the rear wheel I am looking for to fit my bike, he was telling me the three bolt hub is not the correct one for my 1970 Roadster.

I am pretty sure it is the correct one.

His point, which I see merit in, is that there is not cush set up in the systems ?, what am I missing ?, yeh my BSA has one but this Norton does not appear to have one, is this correct ?.

While you have the correct wheel/drum combo for the 1968-1970 Commando, there is no cush drive. On my '68 Fastback, I used a later "paddle" type drum and cush-drive hub. By using the original hub cover with three holes and rubber plugs, I maintained the original appearance, but with the cush.

The early Commandos used the wheel/hub from the Atlas, but while the Atlas had a cush drive in the clutch, the new Commando clutch had no cush drive. It took them until 1971 to correct the oversight.

Josh,
Yes, the 69-70, like Ron says, no cush drive. Mine is solid. If you are worried about the hub, if the long nuts bottom in the tapers, you should be good. Mine ran loose a bit too, but I don't have any problems with it, the nuts are tight and nothing is sloppy.

Ron,
Could you explain a bit more, I would like to understand, part numbers or pictures would help, my mind is gone, must be my age.

I have the arigonal system in my 69 fastback though it has aftermarket plates in it and the clutch is viscious like a light switch all or nothing, though my 70 which i fitted a later quish drive set up with std fibre plates is nice to use. i sugest you go down this road, buy using the early hub cover no one will know.
