Ash is in hospital

I get my new leg Thursday, just waiting for one part, the socket for the foot, they were hoping it be here today but have a app for fitting and adjustments at 11am on Thursday, I even brought new shoes for the occasion, starting to get excited but still need time to learn to walk with it but it's so close now.

Well the wheelchair man came with a selection of wheelchairs, the OT girl for the insurance company was also here, 2 new wheelchairs to pick from as well they had a wheelchair that had a electric motor attachment for more mobility traveling but I didn't like that one, so I picked the wheelchair that suited me best, made of carbon fiber, supper light as well picked the colour for it as well Farrie red so be super quick lol, so now the OT has to send her report to the insurer, they have to approve it before it can be ordered then a few weeks to wait for it, another slow process and might be another 12 weeks before I get it, fu ck I be walking before that, but in the long run still need a wheelchair for around the house and all.

Well a few good things, got 2nd box for the electric start kit today, and new leg on Thursday so things are looking up now, but I also asked the OT person about driving again, what a process I have to go through because I have a prostatic leg I have to have a car that can be mod for left foot throttle, then go for a driving lesson to say I can drive it with the OP person then a few more lesson in a dual test car, what a load of crap I got to go through, even with the bike I have to go through the same sh it, yet I still have my licenses, so I might just do nothing and drive anyway as she told me could take a few years to go through this process, like fu ck I will, I want to get mobile again, not going to wait that long to go through all the B S, but its all about insurance.

Install the CNW kit, test it out, then take the OP for a ride to prove you're good to go.

hmm, sounds a bit dodgy - the insurance people will love to refuse cover for any incident 'cos Ash didn't have the correct licence....
Well I still have my license, no one has taken it off me and no one from dept. of Transport has done nothing to say I can't drive only the OT person from the other party insurer, so as far as I am concern I am still a legal licence driver.
"Run silent, run deep"
Well nothing is going to stop me I will do what they want me too but they won't know I be riding long before any fu cking test to prove otherwise.

The OT girl will sh it her panties the way the Norton handles the tight twisties, I take her for a run up Mt Mee, she prob will fill her panties lol.

I have a local motorcycle dyna tune person who I met at the local boat ramp one morning he was out on a Triumph test ride for a customer, was told a few weeks late he had a peg leg from a racing motorcycle accident, didn't even notice when I was talking to him and when he rode off, he invited me down to his workshop, so will ask him what he had to do to prove his skills.

But you never know with these insurance people they find any excuse to not pay out if I did the wrong thing to please them.

I have had a full license since I was 17 years old and also hold a full open truck, bike and boat license all on the one license since 1982, the only people who can take your license off me is the Police and the courts if I done the wrong thing, I have gone through 3 license suspensions (for 3 months at a time) in the 50 years of riding/driving one for DUI and 2 for points, the DUI I was just on the legal limit, but was never shown the reading, could have won that court appearance but I didn't fight it.

The first license renewal for me, in the late 70's, was a face to face meeting over the counter. The young lady asked, how tall are you? 6 feet. How much do you weigh? 150 pounds. What colour is your hair? Brown. What colour are your eyes? Red. She actually finished the typing on the license card before she realized the joke.

One more sleep and I be standing on 2 legs again yeah, well for short times at first till the stump and skin gets use to it, will have all weekend with it but next week rehab will look after the new leg till I learn to walk with it unaided, they want me to walk right with it, because I no longer have a calf muscle in my right leg, the hip has to do the work of the missing calf muscle, there is a lot to it than just putting it on and walk, they say 2 months of training up at rehab 2 or 3 days a week but I do it in 1/2 that time.

DING! DING! DING!

We have a WINNER! He will clarify your path ahead...

Well got my new leg today +all the stuff needed to fit and wear was at the peg leg makers for 2 hours doing fitting, adjustments, the leg is a training leg and the mould for my stump is made of hard plastic that can be trimmed and made tighter or loosened to fit the stump better, there was 2 moulds made one by Claud she is the tec person and Tom the trainee and they were both worn by me they just change the foot over with my shoe fitted, they had to do a few adjustments to each leg and had to walk between the bars for safety, after a hour of walking using both legs the trainees mould was more comfortable on my stump when walking.
A jell inserts sit over my stump and sits inside the stump mould and my stump has to fit inside tight and a cover goes over the outside of the mould that rolls above my leg that stick to my upper leg that hold the leg on, the knee has normal movement and the foot and ankle has movement that once I learn will be walking like normal with a slight limp, but after all the steps I took the stump skin was still good, but I have to keep an eye on the skin when wearing it for short times till the skin gets use to it all.
I be taking it up to rehab next week for all my walking training I have 2 sessions next week for the next week but will become 3 times a week, but in 2 weeks time I got to take the leg back to the makers for readjustments and a tune up lol.
It was so good standing on 2 legs again and walking using my knee and foot, was walking between the bars but I was holding onto the bars with loose hands just using them as a guide, but it felt great.
I can wear it for short times over the next 4 days before rehab but not allowed to walk around with it on, like yeah I'm not going to walk around with my new leg, sure, doing the standing and steps today I didn't even feel like I was going to fall over, in fact it felt so good.
There is a bit of learning in how the jell insert gets put on and put on in the right place but I get it right was shown quite a few times and I took it all in.
Once after a few months and things working good my fiberglass stump mould will be made and I be able to put a personal design on it, once a fiberglass mould is made it won't be able to modify it like they can with the plastic mould, but over time my stump will change, but they can change the things that sits inside the stump mould.
But I still have a way to go, do things slowly till my stump and skin can handle it, do my rehab to use my hips right and to learn to walk right with a peg leg, they saying 2 month but the way I was walking today it be a lot less than that I say 1 month at the most as what I been learning in rehab I now can understand why all the hip exercise with hip, bum, shoulders, back and of course legs, it felt it was coming all together today.

I was lucky the CTP insurer came to the party to fund the new leg so really a short time with the process, if I didn't get the other person insurer coming to the party could have taken up to 12 months to get a new leg and it wouldn't be as good as the one I will be getting in the long run, the leg I got today is the training leg with less movement in the ankle and foot, but the long term leg well have a lot more movement when it is made for everyday wear, that will be put together once I am walking the right way with my new leg.
There is a lot to it all, but I am getting there quicker than most amputees because I am so keen to get back to a near normal life again, but I still got to start off slowly and make sure I don't get any open skin on my stump, need to be careful till the stump and skin gets use to it, if I get sores from the casting it will put me back, I don't want to go backwards so be very careful as I only want to go forward with my training, so for this weekend I wear for 30 minutes at a time once in the morning and once in the afternoon.
My stump will be going through a lot of changes in the next few weeks/months wearing the leg, but the leg makers will be there for all changes and upgrade to the changes, so I still have a ways to go with my new leg, a lot to take in and learning the right way of walking with a peg leg, but next year I be back to a normal life except with a peg leg but I still got to take care as I go.

Well here it is my new leg.

The best thing about having my new leg is now I can stand on 2 legs and pee proper, I put the leg on today and was up in the shed having a few beers but still sitting in my wheelchair with my new leg up just getting use to it on the stump, but I did go for a walk around the outside of my house but using my crutches for a bit of extra support, had a chat with the neighbour for while standing on my legs, checked the mailbox, so had the leg on for about 5 hrs and some walking and the stump felt good as well the skin, no rubbing at all, but its felt good just doing.

I rang a mate this morning to get him to go and get a 30 pack of beers for me as my beer fridge was empty, terrible in relying on others to do things for me, but we are good mates and I have done a lot for him in the 55 years I have known him, but I don't like asking, but what are mates for and he lives 2 house from where we got T boned and when come to see what had happened the road was blocked off and it was sometime before he realized it was Debra and me they were working on to save our lives till when he saw my bike laying on its side.

Congrats Ash. This thread is an inspiring story because of you.

This thread has helped me to recover, I didn't expect it to make it this far, but it has and getting so much support from so many, I wish it had never happened, but it did, in a instant our lives has changed, accidents happen so quick from one person mistake, I been past the site a few times now and all the yellow police makings are still on the road even after coming up to 5 months now, the corner house where we ended up on their drive way the people have live there for 44 years and they had enough of all the accidents there and have sold up, I didn't get the chance to say thanks to them as they were in the front yard when we got hit and first to us, called the emergency services and helped with blankets and all, but Debra's sister met them the next day to tell them we were still alive, but Debra and my memory is blank from the accident although we both were conscious when they were working on us at the time, I try to picture it in my head but nothing, maybe for the best anyway.

Well a new week and 2x more rehab this week, but the lost of our freedom of not being able to get out and about is starting to have a mental effect on both of us, have to rely on others just to go and do the shopping, The old Landy is no good for me or Debra to drive again and we need a car that can be modified for my left leg driving and Debra leg will never be the same, so the hunt is on, but for me to drive again I have to prove that I can so a few hurdles for me.

I just wrote to my solicitor about the need for a new car and the mental state we are both in without one, Debra is allowed to drive now but we need a auto as the landy now is too hard for her and be impossible for me with one leg and the insurance people will be paying for the mods to what ever car we get that we both can drive.

We missed a family do this weekend because the party was a distant away and had no one to take us, would have cost us too much for a cab or ubar as being a old age pensioner the cost are too high for us.

I just want to get back to a near normal life we had before the accident, it will never be the same as before but for our mental health we need to get on with life, so over waiting for help to get around just to do normal things, family and friends have been great but I hate asking for help just to get around, will see what happens.
