Well got my new leg today +all the stuff needed to fit and wear was at the peg leg makers for 2 hours doing fitting, adjustments, the leg is a training leg and the mould for my stump is made of hard plastic that can be trimmed and made tighter or loosened to fit the stump better, there was 2 moulds made one by Claud she is the tec person and Tom the trainee and they were both worn by me they just change the foot over with my shoe fitted, they had to do a few adjustments to each leg and had to walk between the bars for safety, after a hour of walking using both legs the trainees mould was more comfortable on my stump when walking.
A jell inserts sit over my stump and sits inside the stump mould and my stump has to fit inside tight and a cover goes over the outside of the mould that rolls above my leg that stick to my upper leg that hold the leg on, the knee has normal movement and the foot and ankle has movement that once I learn will be walking like normal with a slight limp, but after all the steps I took the stump skin was still good, but I have to keep an eye on the skin when wearing it for short times till the skin gets use to it all.
I be taking it up to rehab next week for all my walking training I have 2 sessions next week for the next week but will become 3 times a week, but in 2 weeks time I got to take the leg back to the makers for readjustments and a tune up lol.
It was so good standing on 2 legs again and walking using my knee and foot, was walking between the bars but I was holding onto the bars with loose hands just using them as a guide, but it felt great.
I can wear it for short times over the next 4 days before rehab but not allowed to walk around with it on, like yeah I'm not going to walk around with my new leg, sure, doing the standing and steps today I didn't even feel like I was going to fall over, in fact it felt so good.
There is a bit of learning in how the jell insert gets put on and put on in the right place but I get it right was shown quite a few times and I took it all in.
Once after a few months and things working good my fiberglass stump mould will be made and I be able to put a personal design on it, once a fiberglass mould is made it won't be able to modify it like they can with the plastic mould, but over time my stump will change, but they can change the things that sits inside the stump mould.
But I still have a way to go, do things slowly till my stump and skin can handle it, do my rehab to use my hips right and to learn to walk right with a peg leg, they saying 2 month but the way I was walking today it be a lot less than that I say 1 month at the most as what I been learning in rehab I now can understand why all the hip exercise with hip, bum, shoulders, back and of course legs, it felt it was coming all together today.
