Hey Greg we have everything in our hospitals and all free, they won't let me out till everthing is right from a bit of recovery to rehab and evrything at home is right, 6 weeks of healing, they have already got me out of bed done some exerices and a sitting on the toilet, but that was a effort as my right shoulder not working right and was glad to get back in bed again.
I won't be allowed to do much till healed (6 weeks) but can't wait to get back into the trains, i am just going to take my time to get things going again and do as i been told.

Good! Sounds like what I experienced in Germany - you leave when you are in a condition that is good all around.

Here I had my knee replaced in the evening and was home by noon the next day and could not get one or off the toilet! I had to talk my way into a rehab hospital. I have the most expensive insurance you can buy - I spend about $1800/month on healthcare. Next month I'm having cataract surgery and the total is $21,472 - no insurance coverage. I could have opt'ed for the version covered by insurance, but that would have left me wearing close and distance glasses and still paying over $5000.

Well another day, bit of pain but tonight they giving me a slow release tablet that last 12 hrs, so one at tea time and one at brekkie time but the side affect is nodding off but in away all good.
I have already decided to sell the Thruxton by a pay out with the insurane company as it be a long time before i be back on it, so the money will go for good second hand auto van,not to low and not to high and will be also selling the dual cab Defender, here they are still pulling good $$, we have had it for 15yrs now and have done it all up meckinicly and still selling for the price we brought if for.
I am sure the train layout will get even bigger as i will have more roon in the shed and my CRF450X will also be sold all money to the trains, but still have room for the Norton and work area, but all work is done outside under open awning off the shed, the lift table sits under the snooker table when not being used right out of the way from everything, just roll it out when doing work on the Norton which is rare as its so relyable lol, its strang have a freak Norton it starts first kick everytime, never leaks oil, just keeps going no matter how hard i ride it.
I was thinking of rebuilding it to pretty it up but to me i love that it looks old and has been well ridden most of it life, if i pretty it up might when plays up i think i keep it the way it is,aging like its owner lol,just got to work on the new foot for kicking as a ES kit will ad weight that it was built for lightness and fanging through tight corners, when riding it feels like i am floating on a Featherbed, it blows me out, so much difference to when it was all Commando, light weight, shorter wheel base and with a hot 850 hi compression motor, fu cking great, hard to explain in how good they are unless you have built one the right way.
Well i better go as mist have heard it all before, but then when you something that has been built right its great to brag about it and keeping me sane in this mad house, laying around unable to do anything but to recover slowly, fack i am bored stiff as i am a very active person but it won't take me ling when up and about.

A cNw electric start kit comes complete with a lightweight belt drive kit that is SUPER reliable. If you add the Barnet clutch kit as well the total weight gain vs stock is only about 10lbs.

10lbs extra weight, located in the centre mass of the bike, is something you wouldn’t even detect.

Just something to keep in mind if kick starting proves problematic Ash.

I have a norvil belt drive with an Alton electric start
The clutch is very light as is the belt and front pulley
The wheels are aprillia and very light compared to the originals plus alloy yokes etc etc
Infact everything I changed is lighter than original
Even the single carb
It's the only way I can justify the additional weight of the electric starter plus larger battery
But it enabled me to carry on riding when I could no longer kickstart the bike
And I don't notice the extra weight at all

I know have options to choose from, when i brought my 850 new u had a choice to buy the new M111 sitting in the show room floor, but thougth if being a girl pushin a button to start but the 75 M111 was classed as a kick start helper

Yes must be the meds they make you think of other things lol, tonight i just can't sleep, it feels like my right foot is burning but of coruse the foot is not there, such a weird feeling, now the Joe Hunt lol

One thing you might think about if you want to keep riding is to start on a light modern bike. Royal Enfields made in the last 5-6 years are pretty reliable and look like a motorcycle.

Not a fan of Royal Enfields and never will be, be some time before i be back on the bike and the Norton will be it.

Will your new foot be articulated in some way so you can work the gearshift? If not, will a heel/toe shifter work for you?

Greg at the moment every thing is unknown, it all new to me lol, but i will work on it as it comes, where there is a will, there is always away, but that be sometime down the road, at lease this year for sure, its going to be a major chellenge but i am a deturmen person who will work things out as i am very good at making things and of course help from friends here and at home, i have well set up workshop and good toolings, as for the new leg/foot is a unknown as of yet, but have good people to help on that side of things, maybe a built in kicker might be the go lol.
The idea of a button to start it and large battery is not or how i built my hotrod Norton and i will find away to keep it as i built it.

I Only suggested it as a mate of mine lost his right foot in a bike crash
He used to ride an xs650
I said to him once how are you getting on with the back brake and he said 'its makes no difference,the back brake wasn't up to much before anyway '

The back brake is only used to slow down the back wheel, we all know the front brakes do all the work, but so many riders just don't know how to use their brakes right and think their rear brake is morè important and wonder why they get into troubles stopping.
Left to right change has never bothered me, it took me 2 weeks to train my brain to work both sides.

Well its now day 14 since the accident and 4 days after the big chop the nervs are starting to know their new place knowning the lower leg/foot is no longer there, funny feeling and hard too explain.
I threw on the head phone last night i am a Prime member with Amazon and a very good selection of music, so i got into a bit of Rockabilly music so had the foot tapping, well only one lol, about 10pm i felt good in mind and made me tied, so had a pretty good night sleep.
One more day and they are going to take the 2 machines that are connected to me and change the dressing on the stump as well see how things are there going with the healing, so looking forward to that and have lot more freedom of getting out of bed, on the wheel chair that is already set up for me and the leg must stay straight for 6 weeks, but after all that a surprise visit to the wife who is on the next floor up, can't wait to see her and be a big surprise or scare for her lol.
My local Mens Shed i been a member for abot 15 months now and getting so much support from them and offers to come up and do all my yard work made a lot if good friendships there as quite a few MC riders as well ex older riders, they call me the fixit man from my old trade of working in maintenance, but when i get back there hopefully i be still look after all the old buggers lol.
Getting a lot of phone calls from old mates talking about the good old days, so many great times we had and more to come, friendships is so important for quick recovery as well, i still have mates from grade one at school, life long friendship are very rare these days but not with me and my mates.
I can't believe we are getting on 100 messages from this thread but its so good to read everything, it takes the boredom out of being stuck here, love everyones replies and thumb ups.
Well time to put the phone on charge, the cord is just long enough to reach the table but not enough to use it while on charge lol, but lucky its a fast charger.
