Ash is in hospital

Well its now day 14 since the accident and 4 days after the big chop the nervs are starting to know their new place knowning the lower leg/foot is no longer there, funny feeling and hard too explain.
I threw on the head phone last night i am a Prime member with Amazon and a very good selection of music, so i got into a bit of Rockabilly music so had the foot tapping, well only one lol, about 10pm i felt good in mind and made me tied, so had a pretty good night sleep.
One more day and they are going to take the 2 machines that are connected to me and change the dressing on the stump as well see how things are there going with the healing, so looking forward to that and have lot more freedom of getting out of bed, on the wheel chair that is already set up for me and the leg must stay straight for 6 weeks, but after all that a surprise visit to the wife who is on the next floor up, can't wait to see her and be a big surprise or scare for her lol.
My local Mens Shed i been a member for abot 15 months now and getting so much support from them and offers to come up and do all my yard work made a lot if good friendships there as quite a few MC riders as well ex older riders, they call me the fixit man from my old trade of working in maintenance, but when i get back there hopefully i be still look after all the old buggers lol.
Getting a lot of phone calls from old mates talking about the good old days, so many great times we had and more to come, friendships is so important for quick recovery as well, i still have mates from grade one at school, life long friendship are very rare these days but not with me and my mates.
I can't believe we are getting on 100 messages from this thread but its so good to read everything, it takes the boredom out of being stuck here, love everyones replies and thumb ups.
Well time to put the phone on charge, the cord is just long enough to reach the table but not enough to use it while on charge lol, but lucky its a fast charger.
Back soon my friends.

Ashley or ash

Not sure about strong man, but more a positive natuered and mind, worrying about things don't get things fixed, i have been like this all my life, just a mind set to if its broke get into it and fix as soon as can, same as working on the Norton.
The wife finaly got out of bed for the first time she sent pics, what a mess but she now on the road of recovery they had me out of bed next morning 12hrs after the big cut, but my wife has had more injuries through out her life and now new injuries on top of old injuries, it took them 4 days to get her up.

Glad you're getting plenty of "real world" support as well. Important to have community,
makes a fella feel good. Keep up the positivity and keep updating us. I enjoy reading your thoughts and hearing about your progress. Say hello to the wife and keep smiling!

I am so surprised in the support that has come to me and Debra, and from people who we have never met, its good with everyone banding together to help us.
Well the police forensic investergation is over, the officer who incharge is slso a motorcycle rider and have visited me and Debra a few times, with me wasn't just about the investergation but bike talk as well, a very nice person.

They were at the crash site again 3 days ago, used a drome as well, they judge my speed was 43km in a 50km speed zone, so all good there, she is being charge for a few offences and will be going to court for it, she is liable for everything from the accident.
I had to ask all about how it panned out, we were just abidding to the road rules, she hit us in the middle of her bumper bar, a Toyota fad 4, hit us in the right side and we were dragged 20 meters from the inpack, the bike was 15m but the bike was moved before the police or emergence service got there as the bike was on top of us.
We were both concus throurgh out all of it and were talking to all who were helping out, but we both can't remember a thing, maybe for the best.

So now i have a bit of a picture in my head in what had happened.
We are in for a big payout down the road but that is not on my mind at this time, as no fault of our own, i just want to get better, back home, look after my wife, all a life changing thing fir both if us.
Well more to come out of this in the future.

Ashley

Thanks for the update Ash! Just stay focussed on yours and Deb's recovery and rehabilitation.
It sounds like you have lot's of support but, if need be, give me a call. 👍
Cheers

Just remember we had talk about your father who was in the Merchant Navy as me , at that time we were talking about engine plates for a Commando tilted engine into a featherbed frame ....years ago ! never give up .....

took 5 years for my 'left turner" case to get to court, anything u say here, or elsewhere on line, can end up used against u in court, they will also have a ton of vids of any physical activity u may be involved in, to make u look like a liar, in court at trial

routine is asking mundane stuff, going to how bad are u & how badly affected by injuries, like , 'u cut the grass? take the garbage out? still ride lots?' etc. then if u say 'no' to whatever, they then pull their pix/vids evidence out & ask, 'that u taking out the trash? groceries? etc, 'didn't affect how much u ride?' that works against u etc

they are experts & have big dough, at pursuing anything & everything involved in working against u, in court, including minimizing accountability

Well losing a leg/foot is going to make it hard to do anything like mowing the yard or taking out the garbage for some time, a full year of rehab a new leg/foot, learning to walk again, i think i am covered, we have a good 3rd party insurence systen as part of of rego that covers accidents like this and at no fault of our own from this accident and a full on police report proving this and this is just for me, my wife being on the back of the bike is also covered with the same 3rd party insurence cover and the best then we have no memoery of the accident at all, all in the hands of the police, medical, rehab and complete life chang on everything we do from now, so i think we are both covered.
But all i want to is get healed up get a new leg/foot learn to walk again, get home, i so miss home, my gardens and workshop and of course my old red cattle dog, she is suffering as well and wondering where i am as she spends all her time with me, Millie is so devoted and loyal to me and my wife as well.
So important to get back home, i have shed a few tears just thinking of home, even writing this.

Well day 16 and 6am they have just disconected the drug machine to my stump, they just removed the dressing and is looking good, got the nurse to take pics so i could check it out and sent them to the wife, just waiting for the doc's to do their morning rounds before they redress it, just one more drip to remove and i be free again, its all happening today and i be free to get in the wheel chair and go visit Debra, will be good surprise for her, and having a shower, can't wait for that, you don't know how good that will be mmmmm.

Sounds good Ash 👍👍

Ash, reading your words here reminds me of advice I was given by a good friend..."dont back off the throttle. When the curves get tight lean into them harder, and never hit the brakes till youre ready to stop". Advice for life and riding both

Just the way i ride, ride hard, push it through the tight corners and powering up 1/2 through keep the power on that back tyre, get out of the corner and the bike is already up there.

Just catching up here after being away for the holidays. Sorry to hear about your accident Ash and Debra. Your positivity is to be admired. I wish you both a speedy recovery. My ex work mate lost his leg in a MC accident a few years ago. The first thing he bought was a new bike once he got out of hospital. Hes retired now but we have a bike run that I see him every year. He's on his third prosthetic version now as they keep improving manufacture and materials.

Well everyone i had a visit from one of my bess mates Steve who i have known since 15 years old and another phone call from another old friend Ross, so good and keeps the sprits high.
Well had a few visits from docs, pain docs and just after lunch the pyso girl for wheel chair training getting in and out of the wheel chair, then another chair for the toilet, after that i asked if i could be wheeled up to the wife and the pyso girl said she take me, so off we went, when i arrived to her room her best friend was there, i only had 10 min to spend with her before going.
Now back in bed so been a busy day for me, so another visit to see Debra will be planned soon.

Funny how the mind works i was up before sunrise this morning and just laying there i was just thinking of home where i lived all my life except for a few years in my youth, but home was alway where i wanted to live.
As thinking of home the tears started to flow with shacky chin, just couldn't stop it, thats the worst part of being in hospital the messing up of your life all because of one mishap from a complete stranger and she walks away unharmed, but she is suffering as well in what she has done to us, i hold no gruges but she has caused us a whole life change from not paying attenstion and undue care while being behind a wheel.
This is not the only time here that i shed the tease thinking of home, i an a strong person in mind but the brain takes control, but i was a bit sad only getting 10 minute with the wife and seeing her in such a bad way in the damage done to her and there was nothing i could do about it, minding our own business then bang, but we are still alive.

Ashley

You're doing great, Ash.

The waves of sadness and grief are all part of the deal. They are a way to mark the more important waves of joy and gratitude of the life you've lived and will continue to live with Debra. You're both super lucky to have come out of this as well as you have, and are equally as lucky to have the friends supporting you. You've got this!

Morning all, well some great news, i might be going home soon, they are so please with my recovery and attitude for quick recovery, my rehab is just down the road from my home in the same complex where i walked down to the Mens Shed 3 days a week before the accident, so when i do my rehab i ciuld go over and visit to my mates there.
Not sure yet when but the the ball is rolling, social worker is coming up to talk to me and arrange all the medical paper work for my daughter to become a care pensioner as we will need help for a long time.
I am so happy today and can't wait to get back home, a few things will need to be done around my house to make thing easier for both of us, not sure how long it be when the wife will be home but i can get the house ready eith a big clean up and a smooth run for the wheel çhair, going for my first rehab workout in a hours time.
I am so happy.
