Working on a Mk2a g/box, took the sleeve gear out as the bushes had started to move inwards and were getting munched by the gears. I found the sleeve gear had the wire circlip at the clutch end but not at the g/box end, so the bushes were moving inwards. I didn't know that the sleeve gear at some point had only one groove, i thought it went from no groove to both grooves when the Mk3 came about. Set up and ground a new groove in the S/gear. At the same time i perfected the technique for removing the circlips without resorting to grinding a pocket in the sleeve gear, and without damaging the clips.
