TVS 961 RECALL....

So you don't actually own a newer 961 judging by your signature and you are making assumptions from Social Media? You can't make this shit up on this Forum. I'm glad I joined here 12 years ago and didn't post - think I'll do the same again. So many know it alls, posting without facts.

BTW: I have called the factory three times. Twice an immediate response, third time, I left a message and they called back immediately. I just don't believe anything I read here.

I don't need what the hive says to make up an opinion, I think for myself.
I have an early Donnigton 961 (made in the UK). I am not making assumptions, and I’m not a know it all. You don’t believe anything you read here, so have a look for yourself.

Let me ask you some questions:

Have you (or anybody else on here) received a letter from Norton?

Has the 961 been officially recalled - NO. Check it here..

Do you know which VIN numbers are in scope?

Have you looked on any of Norton’s social media feeds?

If you are a member of the Facebook 961 group look for yourself, and you’ll see what owners are saying.

Oh, and please kindly refrain from personal insults, this forum is better than that.

WELL.... I have contacted Norton 3 times... first time i was replied to , asking for my VIN... sent it.... NO ONE at Norton got back to me... UNTIL NOW. I have just had an email saying -
''Thank you for reaching out to our Customer Service team.

I understand that our Aftersales team has been in touch to address your concern.

As they have this in hand, we’ll now go ahead and close the case.'' FFS......

I don’t have a horse in the race, but many 961 owners on other social media platforms (most likely ones you’re not a member of) have expressed their displeasure with how the process is working or lack of.

I don’t find it humorous either.

The owners that are posting sour taste, have a right to do so. It’s not wrong. I’m sure you’d feel the same if it were you. Luckily it’s not.

They don’t have a reason to lie about it. How is personal experiences made up without facts? Just because it’s not you?
Because you’re not experiencing what they are?
You may have received great communication and service, but others may not have. That’s how Norton works. It’s not an illusion or made up story.

You say you joined this forum 12 years ago. Did you own a Donington 961 back then?
Or, were you one of the dreamers who wanted a 961 but held off because of all the horror stories about the issues the Donington 961 bikes had?
Looks as if those stories back then were just shaking the hive and without facts?

Had the same response today.???

Fired an email off to Norton on Wednesday night explaining that all had gone a bit quiet about the recall. Thursday morning got a call from Chris at TVS , he asked me for the last four numbers of the vin and then we had a good chat about the situation ( very nice man and a good listener) , he said that TVS had to report the recall to DVLA at Swansea and they were suppose to send a letter out to all the owners of the affected machines and despite many correspondence between TVS they still haven't sent any letters out. Now I don't want to start another round of endless shite discussions about this, I for one am happy my bike is getting sorted. When I first went to Australia one of the first things someone said to me was "I hope your not another bloody whinging Pom." well I found out that Ozzies are pretty good at moaning too , although the Yanks seem more level headed about the whole thing, and there is an abundance of it on this site. I have never regretted buying both of my 961's despite their little foibles so may I respectfully suggest that if you are not at all happy with your bike or TVS give it a rest and sell the bloody thing and stop bleating on and on and buy something you like.;)

Seems Norton identified this problem pretty quickly, did the right thing in taking action and got notification onto their website promptly - they’ve since struggled a bit to get ahead of this issue.

They are likely bound by a set recall procedure that relies on the DVLA to complete formal recall notifications. The DVLA; not known for their speed and efficiency.

Sub-contracting out transportation has its advantages but has potential to lead to the differing experiences noted by some owners. Some great - some not so.

My guess Norton could be somewhat stretched. Development work will be ongoing and likely gathering pace, they’re still building 961’s from the PCP deals, whilst now dealing with a 600+ bike recall.

I think there’s real value in a bit of patience from those UK owners involved and absolutely none in ranting on social media. Similarly, if ya don’t have a ‘horse in the race’ and are generating angst here on behalf of others - maybe ask yourself if you’re adding value. My thoughts only.

Dude, if a fraudster is gonna go to those lengths to con you, then they could easily give you a fraudulent ‘receipt’ as well can’t they !?

The way the actual collection works is they book the collection in with you. They phone you to tell you they’re coming. They tell you the company name. They come to the address that you gave them. They have the paperwork with your name, address, bike registration number, VIN, etc.

So yes, a receipt would seem the proper thing to do, but it’s pretty immaterial IMO. It’s as safe as any collection you could arrange for anything.

Well at least I think it is… if my bike doesn’t come back you’ll have the last laugh !
Well… it’s over a week now since a bloke I don’t know came in a white van and took my 961 away.
Heard nowt since, despite chasing the factory.
Maybe NorTriDuc was right …?!

Lets face it TVS will now be swamped with confused and concerned owners. They thought by involving the DVLA the owners would by now all be informed. Which was a mistake that anyone with previous involvement with the DVLA would have predicted and made alternative arrangements. They are left with playing catchup with all the confusion that creates with owners not affected making contact and those affected making multiple contacts. Hopefully they can turn it around.

I think you nailed it…

Maybe in return you’ll get a V4

Hopefully those of you whom have had their bikes taken back to the factory, get the right bike back and not someone else’s.

The "tune" they are playing now is - " be patient" - that's with probably about 50 people wanting it done right now - never mind the 700 the have to do......

It really shouldn’t be a mistake to follow the normal procedure for a safety recall, using the official agency/framework put in place for that exact purpose.

Given what they have on their plate, I suspect it may have been their only real option - we’re guessing of course.

Wouldn’t be suprised if the registration designation of some of these bikes is holding up progress at the DVLA.

Which is why, several posts back, I urged people to contact the factory rather than wait, and get yer bikes in quickly… ie before they got overwhelmed.

It worked for me in so far as I got my bike in.

All I have to do now is get it back… hopefully fixed…

Howmanyleft isn't that accurate, I wouldn't put much faith in those numbers. I own quite a rare Ducati, that site states there are 4 on the road. Yet I know 6 owners with their bikes in use..
Agreed. On face value though, looks like large numbers of Solihull ‘SP’s may have been registered as Donington ‘Sports’. 107 Donny Sports registered in 24? Same with the cafe racers.

Probably nothing but looks like the potential for confusion and delay - or neither of course!

Has anyone had there bikes returned from Norton yet ? I was hoping to go the TT on mine on the 26th of May. I received a phone call from Norton saying they will prioritize my collection but nothing more.
Looks like I will be going on my triumph unless Norton want to lend me a V4

Appears that a few have received bikes back Chris, from watching the FB site, so they have commenced the process. Seems a bit random at the moment though.

The key to success, at least initially, seems to be to make (and maybe maintain) contact. Read through the FB posts - there are multiple contact names through which owners have had good results.

Try to ignore some of the more negative commentary. Owners have a right to be frustrated but some of the comments are ridiculous!🤣

Good luck.

Thanks Ste. Not got a Facebook book profile thing myself. I spoke to a guy called Chris Lee I think. He phone me after I emailed Norton. But not heard anything more. Think i have resigned my self to going on the Triumph now. Our Dorris will be happy. The Norton is not the best two up .
I will try to get them to collect it before I go . At least I can get out on it when I get back . When it comes back that is lol.
