because I am wondering whether I can fit carbs, a Pazon, and get rid of the ECU altogether.

Forget the Pazon, go with the Triumph Scrambler Igniter box.
It can use the 961's crankshaft position sensor for ignition.
You won't have to modify the timing cover of the 961 to make the Pazon work, if that is even possible.

OK but again the ECU can handle the timing and "correct" spark curve that can be modified unlike the Pazon so why go through the hassle of trying to scab on something that would require a new cover and machining? Also, the ECU controls a lot of other parameters safety-wise.

And what about installing a petcock bung? Cover plate in place of fuel pump with welded bung?

And last but not least have you removed the intake and tried to fit FCR or CR in there? Ill have to find a picture of when we tried to mock up a version.

Maybe there is some old ECU off an early 90's Ford Lazer that we could find in a scrap bin somewhere that would work too.

That looks like it has the same issue as mine had. i.e. the centre guide on the top tensioner is too long and bears only on the rollers ( which are not actually rollers) and wears them away.

I don't understand the rush to install carbs ? Are they having that much trouble with the OEM EFI , mine is working great.

We all know the FCRs look Bitchin',the standard throttle bodies - ahhhh..., not so much.:p
Plus, if you're looking for exclusivity, how many carbed 961s are there out there anyway?
And finally, a fuel injected Norton is not a real Norton.:D

I'd say that would be harder to do, but it's certainly another way to go.:D
It would tremendously boot the exclusivity factor of the 961.
 
One advantage of carbs over TB's is the ability to balance them, but I'm working on that...

Um, riiiiiiight. But the effort to either balance or make the throttle body more easily adjusted for balance is less and would yield a better outcome?

And all these carburettor powered 961 unicorns, where are they? It’s sprinkled all over the forum and hijacking yet another thread right now (with my assistance) but it’s just a “I’m gunna” that never happens. And finding some grainy Kenny Dreer photo with a scantily clad blonde smiling near an FCR won’t prove they exist - but post them anyway…….

That needS to go directly to the disagreements thread. A factory EFI Norton is more real Norton than a frankenbike of reproduction and aftermarket parts.

Well, as we have never been able to balance them, it’s worth a go, no?

Fool's errand. If the stock Typhoon on USA bikes are not working then a switch to the 400 with the last updated map works just fine.
