CNW electric starter, what other upgrades are needed.

Hi,

I like to see at least 250cca, preferably a bit more. It’s easy to find a battery that will fit the stock battery tray that will give you these specs.

You do want to have some reserve as the cca listed for the battery is considering perfect conditions. Cold or hot temps/weather will affect the cca.

The starter motor will not do well with low amps and can get damaged with prolonged use.

cNw in house installs get the Shorai LFX 21.

The narrow air filter for Amals is no longer available from K&N. It was a special manufacture and they didnt want to make them any longer unless we placed an order for an outrageous amount of filters.

Mark from British Cycle Supply and myself went to a different US manufacturer to have them made.

The image on the BCS site is just not updated to show the new filter. The two filters are virtually identical.

We just got the new batch a few days ago. So both BCS and cNw have them available at this time.

Are the CNW kits shipping yet? Mine has been on order since December!

Ron,

We are getting really close to finishing up on this production run.

Thanks for you patience and I know you will be very happy with the quality and performance of the kit once you get it installed.

I'm probably going with the Antigravity ATX12AH, 360 CCA. I currently have Antigravity batts in 3 other bikes, and I like them because , unlike the Shorai, they will shut down before they become seriously discharged. I killed a Shorai last year when I accidentally left the parking lights of my Ural on . That said...I just replaced the Shorai in my modern Triumph Tiger. It lasted 17 years!

Thanks, Matt. This is my second kit. The one on my 850 Interstate has been flawless. This one will go on my newest build, the 750 Interback.

When I install for others I recommend the LFX18L1-BS12 (270 CCA) rather than the LFX14L1-BS12 (210CA), but I'm sure the LFX14L1-BS12 will reliably start the bike. IMHO, the LFX21L1-BS12 is overkill.

Not knowing which battery you're considering in the YB14L case means I can't say much. I guess as long as Lithium Iron and CCA of 200 or more it should work. Just be sure the terminals are up to having the thick cables attached.

Not sure where to buy now. I was buying them form Amazon but their price is through the roof now and cNw is out of stock. I'm looking for one right now myself.
Agreed. I have used the LFX18 for years with no issues. I keep it on a tender when not in use.
