Amal cable guides

On my 850, I am running 2 separate throttle cables up to a twin pull throttle, thus getting rid of the horrible cable splitter.
I notice though that the cables take quite a sharp bend just after the carbs, so I was thinking of using some form of cable guide to ensure that the cables have a smooth curve.

I saw something similar in the photo of the space frame in the thread on Kenny Dreer's flat tracker post #32

While it's certainly possible to make up some guides (or even to do a 3D printed one!) I was wondering if there was an existing source? At one time I did try a set of guides for a DellOrto carb cable, but there was a lot of stiction between the cable & the metal guide.

Personally I do not believe the splitter is horrible.

I’ve had dozens of twins with a splitter and always wondered why people made such a big deal about ‘single carbs are less aggro than twin’ etc.

Until I bought my ‘68 T120, which has two cables from carbs to twist grip as standard. Now I get it! Theres no doubt that handle bar movement upsets the cables and / or stretches them differently enough to cause more frequent adjustment to be required.

But to your question, 90 degree bends are available.

And there’s the Maddass gantry option.

I couldn't agree more. The splitter is a far superior arrangement, requiring less maintenance. Bit of a fiddle to assemble, but the plated brass splitters have a removeable cap at both ends to make life easier.

I have a nice stainless splitter, I believe from EuroJumbalya in the US. Bit of grease within for good measure and Bob's your uncle.

Never had a problem with splitters in 46 years of owning my Norton except losing the inside bit when having the cables apart, once the carbs are set up and cable all adjusted should have no problems at all

One big complaint is that usually the three pockets (2 into 1) are way too shallow, the cable easily falls out. Then the synch is way off. I believe Flanders sells a splitter with deeper pockets. There are other problems.

What I would really like to see is a dual cable over-the-handlebar throttle such as the BMW throttles from the 60s and 70s. Unfortunately the opening is very slow to pull 32mm of wire otherwise I would use it on a Norton. I have a 1966 R60/2 which appears slow but would be much more interesting to ride if the throttle opened faster.

Interesting, but do any of these have a lining on the inside, or is it just the inner cable rubbing on a steel tube? As I mentioned, the DellOrto bends gave a lot of stiction, so I want to avoid this.

I believe they are plain tubes, ie unlined.
