You're a golden candidate for the long RGM folding type:
1. Folds up completely inside your leg (instead of behind it)
2. MUCH more clearance from exhaust (or rearsets)
3. Significantly longer = better starting leverage.
As the man says - do yourself a favour!

Yep - that's it. Got it on two bikes.So funny I was just about to post this for opinions. This is the one correct?
Buy a couple of spare rubbers while you're at it. They are a different size to OEM ones.

I have two extended/folding kickstart levers from RGM and neither has a detent. They work ok, but it is not the best design, IMHO.

Yeah - both mine are like that (no detent ball)
Fixed them by replacing the standard washer with a thin belleville spring. Now stays wherever I want it to.
What? No pivot bolt or spline clamping bolt? That is definitely not on!

I think that may be RGM on-sold in USA?
Remove the exhaust pipe and footrest , and fit a straight kickstart lever !

These offend my sesabilities , as the pivot bolt SHOULD be INLINE with the clamping bolt . so theres No OVERHANG , to overload and distort things .

knobblies & a kidney belt . Pity the levers not straight & 20 inch long . Maybe just buy the Bottom Bit , and go from there ?
Probly do with more meat on the vertical bit adjacent to the bolt ,
Could always whip one up from a block of solid , but the splines
are a schwine to file in .
Just loctite a H.T. Bolt in .

I was thinking of the free frieght deal they do for American customers as a price comparison... compared to ex England
Before changing levers try a new belleville washer as mentioned above and move the lever back a notch or two so that it engages the paul with the gear at or just above the 9:00 o'clock position for easier, better leverage, starting. I made an offset bracket for the muffler years ago but I see they are available commercially now.

Put a RGM longer kicker on and you never go back to the stock Commando kicker, I have had my RGM T160 long kicker for over 12 years now and always keeps tight on the kicker spline, my stocker kicker always came loose after 2 or 3 kicks, the RGM kicker stays in the fold away position and the best thing no more lever in the back of the leg and now can keep my foot fully on the foot peg.
It also makes it easier to kick the Norton to life and with my Joe Hunt Maggie it fires up on 1/2 swing on the kicker everytime.
Don't know why Norton used such a small low kicker in the first place.

The original RGM extended lever had a leaf spring detent attached by a bolt (as it was adapted from the T160 kickstart lever).

Yes they do
But the rgm folding one is better
On my MK2a I have had a pattern MK3 and an RGM. They are the same length and both easily clear the pipe/silencer but the MK3 has the detent. I bought my MK3 kickstart in the 80's, as its the same length as the RGM it must be pattern as RGM have the MK3 as shorter than the RGM. Or RGM could be wrong ?
