What caused this?
Pretty sure, the crank is tweeked out of phase (shakes like a whore in church) probably from a seizure event in the past. Then, the engine mounting bolts were loose/elongated holes.
There is also evidence of the bearing having spun in the cases.
She's had some hot suppers.

The two forums I've managed to find are very lacking in solid technical information, lots of bling only.
(Makes me thankful all over again about the shared knowledge here! 🍻 )
Any suggestions?

Back in the 70s I bought the 400cc version from a dealer. It was cheep. It was locked up from sitting. The shop guys put it in gear and broke it loose. A little fresh gas and a check of the oil tank and I was away. It rode it for a while, sold it on and made a little money. I never touched it other wise.

Can your existing selectors be hard faced?
No doubt, I have sone Stellite TIG wire on hand. But then milling them to the correct offset, perpindicularity, to the shaft surface finish (ground) would be a lot of effort/time.

Yep I agree
I have done it in the past on a lathe gearbox
I guess you are lucky that parts are available
I'm wondering if there's better gearbox oil available now than when these bikes were built?

I see a marginal design gearbox, designed for the H1 500cc engine, now behind a 750cc engine, and then an easy 8-10 extra ponies from expansion chambers takes it over the TOP, when ridden like a bank robber.

Trailer/Garage Queens ridden occasionally, and then only at parade speeds, no problems.

The gears that are bushed to spin on the splined shaft are wobbly, thereby causing extreme kickout loads & failed shift forks.

Sliding gears on a lathe have no dynamic thrust, like constant mesh/dog engagement
