Last year I removed the members map due to privacy concerns.
It works by IP address and adds the users pin to the map. Its not that accurate, but enough so you could zero on within 40 miles. I was asked where the members map went. Maybe I am over reacting. So creating this poll that will run for 2 weeks to see what you all think.

I like the map but if it can be used to identify a particular user some won't. I don't care if people know where I live - easily found on the Internet, but I do know some don't like it. That's why in the Commando Survey on my site I never identify the owner even though I often quote what they say about their bike as long as it doesn't identify them.

I like the idea, but maybe with a way to opt out/in? like a popup after creating you account (or next time you log in for existing users) that gets the location and then offers to autofill the location part of you profile and opt into the map? Obviously thats a bit more programming... a simpler option could just be another checkbox in user preferences, or determine whether or not to show a users location based on whether or not they have filled out the "where I'm from" section of their profile.

As a young boy of 8yo, I watched as our family reacted to being the victim of theft.
Dad's 1969 Yamaha 180 scrambler, sister & brother each had a L5T Yamaha 100 Trailmaster bought with money from after-school jobs.
A family friend had his Honda dream there.
Four bikes, stolen, by human filth.
Mum & Dad grew up on farms in rural America, this was the first exposure to this crud.
To say Dad was pissed, like I'd never seen, was an understatement.
It makes you bitter.

People really target these old lump bikes do they?

I'm ok with our location shown.

Would not work for me, I use 4G for my internet and the provider uses data centres across UK and Ireland which sets my location. So far this year I would be located in

Belfast
London
Douglas IOM
Dublin
Edinburgh
Newcastle

So the young attractive women would be worn out by travelling before they got near me ;)

I usually use a VPN that shows me in any number of US (or world) locations. Curious to see what the map shows, if it is voted in.

Another note; the Vincent Owners Club publishes a list of contacts for club members. My city, state and phone number are listed there.

The Norton owners club used to do this

No problem with my address vaguely published and I’d be interested to know how many Norton’s in my neighborhood.
I live on a somewhat rural community and it would be nice to see who might live close enough to get together occasionally for a ride.
